Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

There is a widely-quoted hadith attributed to Muhammad:

"Your smiling in your brother's face is charity; an exhortation of your fellow man to virtuous deeds is equal to almsgiving, your putting a wanderer in the right road is charity, your assisting the blind is charity; your removing stones and thorns and other obstructions from the road is charity; your giving water to the thirsty is charity."

So smiling certainly seems to be seen as something meritorious for Muslims.

Unfortunately, I have been unable to track down a source for this hadith - it doesn't seem to be in either Bukhari or Muslim, and none of the sites listed by Google where the hadith is quoted provides a reference. Can anyone help out here?

Seemingly, all we ever had to do was behave ourselves.

    Organised religion has divided us.

Thanks for this. The author of the book, Zakiyyuddin Abdul ‘Adhim bin Abdul-Qawiy bin Abdullah bin Salamah Abu Muhammad Al-Mundziri (or Al-Mundhiri), was born in 581AH (1185/6 CE) and died in 656AH (1258CE). He was a famous scholar of hadith, and produced notable summaries of the hadith collections of Muslim and Abu Dawud. His book Al-Targhib wal-Tarhib (rough translation: "Encouragements and Warnings") is a collection of various hadiths on the theme suggested by the title.
