Sparta Prague v Liverpool

    3e and Channel 5 from 8 pm

After Tuesdays and Wednesdays heroics at the top table its the scraps as Liverpool head east for the first leg of the 16th Finals stage of the Europa League for which the winners will pocket a pathetic £5.5 million approx. Hardly worth the effort for LFC but as it happens the side needs games and who knows we might get to see a few of the youngsters play.

No firm team news except that Poulson (wife about to give birth) along with injured Gerrard and Agger have not travelled.

Sparta Praha sit 2nd in thier league Kadlec and Kweuke are the first choice strikers the former only 18 years old. Their home record in the EL is nothing to write home about.

Liverpool travel to Prague for the first leg of their Europa League tie.

This will be Kenny Dalglish's first ever European match as Liverpool manager, as English clubs were banned during his first reign following the Heysel disaster.

Liverpool have included 16 year old Raheem Sterling in the squad, he will be the youngest ever play to appear for the club if he comes on. Other young prospects Conor Coady, Jack Robinson and Tom Ince have been included in the squad.

Gerrard and Agger are out injured, but Joe Cole could feature for the first time under Kenny as he has travelled.

    Kick off at 20:05

Hearing great things about Sterling, hopefully he'll get some time on the pitch.

Be a bit underwhelming if he doesn't feature!

He scored 5 goals on Monday night against the Southend youth team.

    Fcuking lol..

I don't think Liverpool fans should be sticking their noses up at any sort of cup, considering the way they're playing at the moment.

5.5 million quid is hardly worth getting out of bed for if you are Liverpool football club. Its not like we need the money.
but as it happens the side needs games

So from that point of view I'm happy enough :)

    Now stop being so precious.

True, the money is not important but european ranking is. The farther that Liverpool progress in the tournament then all the better for their european club ranking, which in turn effects which preliminary rounds they enter in seasons that follow, etc.

I reckon this one will be a cagey away win, 0-1.

Thats the first I've seen of him so I've only the 5 goals to go on but is he a bit of a glory hunter?

He seems a bit head down and going it alone regardless of people in good positions. I doubt he'll be waltzing around lads at senior level like that and could end up looking like Ciise running straight in to defenders.

Not trying to put a dampener on it or anything. :)

Hopefully - if that team actually starts - they will put in a good enough shift to make it easier to bring on the young guns. Raheem is certainly one for the futrue but as KK says he will only be involved if he has his homework done - literally. He's on his midterm - I would prefer not to see him as I think he really is too young, getting the experience of travelling with the first squad for a european match will be more than enough IMHO.
I would prefer to see ( among others) Pacheco get the game time.

So big it needs 2 threads.

Doubt Sterling will see action, he has just turned 16. He'd be the youngest player for Liverpool if he does get a go.

I'd like to see Flanagan get a run out if he's in the squad.

    could see

    Johnson, Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Wilson
    Lucas---Aurelio
    --Kuyt
    Meireles----Maxi
    Ngog

    or

    Carragher, Kyrgiakos, Wilson
    Johnson
    Aurelio
    Meireles--Lucas
    Maxi
    Kuyt
    Ngog

Or, when you factor in where they have played in recent months:

    Carragher
    Soto
    Wilson----Johnson
    Lucas---Aurelio
    ----Kuyt
    Meireles
    Maxi

    Wilson----Johnson
    Maxi
    Lucus
    Meireles
    Aurelio
    Kuyt
    N'Gog

There is going to be a lot of movement between positions me thinks.

I hope Liverpool put in a good performance tonight and manage to grab a few goals. Then we can give players a run in the second leg.

It would also be nice to see Liverpool win some silverware, and I don't care if it's the Europa League, unlike some.
