Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I've indicated the species that have nested in my garden. Bound to have been others such as Chiff Chaff, Willow Warbler and others.

i'm confused as to what kind of gardens ye all have? we have a fairly large garden and many different trees and bushes and here's my list:

    Starling
    Blackbird
    Greenfinch
    Blue tit
    Great tit
    Coal tit
    Chaffinch
    Wood pigeon
    Wren
    Jackdaw
    Pied wagtail
    Rook
    Pheasant
    Fieldfare
    Sparrow
    Robin

    just outside our garden:

    Goldfinch

In my case its large, rural, relatively large body of water and 13 years of observing.
One side of garden has old (centuries old) hedge and mature Oaks and Ash

@Mothman: Water Rail and Osprey are impressive sightings even outside a garden! Great stuff.

I've a stream a few metres from house and Water Rail has been seen twice in the stream from the house.
Osprey can be argued as not in garden. Seen twice. One many years ago when it did a circle of the lake. And then there was one couple years ago roosting within sight of house and flew over a few times

Brilliant. 2 fine birds. I guess the mature trees and lake/stream are the key. You're lucky!

Well I would take Feargals list and remove half :p

    Collared dove
    Barn Swallow
    Meadow pipit
    Pied wagtail
    Wren
    Robin
    Song thrush
    Redwing
    Mistle thrush
    Blackbird
    Great tit
    Coal tit
    Blue tit
    Magpie
    Jackdaw
    Rook
    Starling
    House sparrow
    Chaffinch
    Goldfinch
    Greenfinch
    Siskin

Still.... not too bad for my humble little space with no trees :)

    What's your garden list?

Are we sticking with the survey standard of counting only birds which have alighted in the garden (with the exception of birds of prey where flyovers are counted) or all birds seen flying over a garden, or all visible from the garden?
    ;)

I only ask because a similar question was asked in the pub one night and an argument grow over what birds could be counted. ;)

This is the basis for my list and the basis for including Osprey

Only in garden or fly through. I didn't include birds seen from my garden or birds flying at height over garden (herring and black headed gull). Mothman can include his osprey because it was flying around his house cool0003.gif

Really wish we had a large pond in our garden the my list would be longer but we've got around 1/2 acre atm covered in grass, hedges along some of it and lots of untidy corners and a giant compost heap but so far only had these..

    Robin
    Blue tit
    Coal tit
    Great tit
    Dunnock
    Siskin
    Carrion crow (just the one)
    Jackdaws
    Rooks
House sparrows (largest number around 24)
    Wren
    Blackbirds
    Greenfinch
    Goldfinch (my fave)
    Pied Wagtail
    Starling
    Chaffinch
    Thrush (I think mistle)

Think that's it. Wish we could plant some very mature trees and pop in a pond, atm we only have small apple trees and a few immature hazels but the usual rural hedgerows with blackberries etc. in amongst it.
We've had more birds than that but the ones listed above are the ones we've had since I Started the survey and since I started feeding them all the time.
