I checked the rules. Basically, my banner linked to a website. there was nothing offensive about either. Here is the pic:

The picture contained a link to this site:
    http://www.wordonfire.org/The-Catholicism-Project/Trailer-New.aspx

    Why was my signature removed?

Also, I have seen sig banners on boards.ie which are bigger and wider than mine. Check this one, for instance, which is wider:

    Please help.

It's oversize in KB and dimensions, Insect Overlords isn't.

The rules can be seen here:

It's too big and it's an image banner containing an advertisement with a link to a site.

It doesn't say anything about advertising on the rules.

Would it be OK if the banner was a bit smaller?

    It does...
Sigs may contain a simple text only link to other websites, including a business (i.e. www.mysite.com - no images), but a disguised link (i.e. Come buy really cheap electronics here, we're having a huge sale, come on down!) or an image banner to that site is not allowed.

So is my new sig OK? It is a pic leading to a Catholic website. It is not selling anything.

I'm quickly forming the impression that the Lords of Boards work in mysterious ways, and won't allow any disguised links in a sig.

    Nice sig, though.

Kinda marries pescatarianism with trinitarianism. Neat.

No. It can't be an image linking to a site. It can be text, but not an image:

By that same line are a lot of sigs not breaking the rules (e.g. images linking to forums here on boards, "Ask me anything" linking to Formspring etc etc).

Sigs linking to forums on boards are obviously fine. pics linking to outside forums owned or being promoted by that poster are not as I among others found out last year. As long as the rules are applied as consistently as possible within the framework of how boards works, then I have no issue with it really, despite being somewhat miffed at the time.
