Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi Jason,

I'm going to be honest and brutal and hopefully constructive, because there's point in me saying its lovely and you'll say great and that will be that.

You have some great shots on the site, the landscapes are what stand out the most to me, but more so the tyre's the thingys on the liffey and a couple up the mountains... there's a few shots from up the mountains that I think shouldn't have made it past sharing with your friends... sorry.

Generally I think there's way too much on the site and therefore no unique voice, I was going to say its because of lack of titles, but I think it's just down to too much. If you consider how an average person uses the internet, popping on the sites with the attention span of a goldfish, a site needs to grab someone directly and give them the message effectively.

saying all this i'm just redesigning my own site so I don't mean to take the highhorse or anything.

um, i'd ask yourself what you wish to accomplish from a portfolio site and completely aim at that audience, be harsh on yourself when editing your photographs, only THE BEST should survive!

Hope that helps and doesn't send ya off working on a saturday!

    Brendan

You have WAY too much going on, on there.

The way I see it, a portfolio site has maybe 1 - 3 galleries which you should choose to specialise in. These could be area's like portraits, commerical, weddings, landscape, gigs etc etc.

When I go on I see 19 different galleries with no titles and long rectangle images which really confuses me as to whats what.

    Now onto your images.

    I like:

Landscapes(all very mixed up in different galleries)
    The electricity poles are nice
The abstracts in the 1st gallery are nice as well
    The tyres are VERY good.

Your portraits to me, seem very flat and out of focus for the most part. Some are good. The lighting isn't great either. I don't know if this was your intention if it was im sorry.

Overall I think you need to whittle it down to 2 - 3 area's and change up the layout so its easier to browse.

You have some good images, its just its a mess to browse. If you hadn't posted this on here asking for constructive criticism I would have stopped looking after the 1st gallery.

I agree. Although I just starting meself, I was told that portfolios are suppose to tell a story. You take good pictures. With all the images though there just too much going on.

As said above, you have a few good shots and a lot more weaker images. When someone is looking at your site now they have to hunt for these good shots and probably wont find them as they will get bored and move along. Your Mono work is rather flat and the protraits also not inspiring.

Work out what you want to show the world that represents you. Get it down to a variety of about 10 - 20 images. Have these placed in a few catagories. Maybe a few words to say what they mean to you.

My advice would be to include only your *very* best images. If you're not 100% happy, don't include it.

liked the tightness of the first few albums. thought they worked nicely as sets. lost the run of itself for a bit then I think.

Personally, I think there are a lot of beautiful shots in there.

However, I think the navigation is a bit painful. For example, I could have clicked next..next..next several times before realising that I'm back to the first bunch of shots that I saw.

I can't offer a definite positive recommendation, but perhaps some sort of thumbnail/preview option on the galleries may be better. Also, a description of each gallery on the front page would help. I found I was clicking in wonder. I was happy with what I found, but I wasn't sure what I would find.

There is some very nice stuff on there. But it is a bit cumbersome to navigate, there's too much to and fro to get to anything. The sets need titles. there's too much of the same in each, narrow it down to just the best ones. A lot of the abstract/minimilaist stuff could all go into one set. As mentioned, some/most of your B&W shots are very dark/under exposed. They need adjusting, some of them would be very nice if given some boost.

Less is more most of the time, great potential though :)
