Just moved to the town centre today. Have an odd and eclectic taste in pastimes and would appreciate any of ye're advice in getting to know the place.

Not really into the pub scene but love a night out. Mid 20's myself but I reckon I would be more suited musically to studenty type deals. What spots would I get some good techno, trance, dubstep or reggae nights or do the clubs just play chart music to **** as I suspect? Most importantly, where do the single ladies be at? =D

Tai ji quan practitioner. (chen style) Anyone know of a master about the town or a park in which it is practiced? Doubtful I know.

Long distance cyclist, middle distance runner and avid walker. Any tips on a good trail starting in the city?

I like to cook but was spoiled with an excellent cheap farmers market near my old home. Where can I get good fresh (organic if possible) fruit, veg, fish etc. (have read the butcher thread already! tx :/

Seeing as I have some spare time on my hands I would also be willing to volunteer for work and would be interested in helping out with a church or a school or anything really that ye could suggest?

I'm a keen card player. Playing mostly 1/3 PLO live with roots in 2/4 NL. Grind 100PLO online but want to suss the local action to see how soft it is. Is the lighthouse the only Casino within walking/cycling distance? Just read an tourney schedule for them and it seems a bit crap shooty. Do cash games run regularly there? Are there any pubs holding tourneys with a decent size field?

Also would be much obliged if ye could suggest something random to do for a night that I couldn't find in a guide book.

Seems like a great little town ye have here folks. I'm looking forward to getting to know it. PM or reply please if even if to tell me what not to do/where not to go!

Are you posting in the correct forum? This is Westmeath. In Ireland. And Athlone is a town in Westmeath.

They run 200NL cash games + scheduled tourneys at the lighthouse, the big one on the last monday in the month. Cash games run until they close at 6am on weekends, not sure about weekdays.

I guess you know yourself that live is softer than online, expect lots of open limping etc.

The Lighthouse is the only casino in athlone. The Prince also run a tourney, I think it's on Mondays.

The clubs just play chart music to **** unfortunately, they don't venture too much into techno or proper dance music, but there's plenty of pubs around the town such as The Local, The Castle Inn, Scribes and Coppers that have live bands if you're into any of that.

If you're interested in the single ladies you could go Karma nightclub as it's more suited to 20-somethings.
