Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Upgrade to Sky+ for current customers?

I've read threads on this but couldn't find a definitive answer.

Have been a Sky customer for years now, about 12 years. Would like to upgrade to Sky+ but I think it's unfair to be expected to pay €190 for this when new customers can join for free?

I've tried ringing them and threatened to cancel as I said it was ridiculous that I could cancel & rejoin for the same offer, but the woman said that if I cancelled I wouldn't be able to join again for 1 year, and that their satellite would tell them whether I had signal or not.

Is there any way around this, or do I have to pay the 190? I'm not being tight, I just think it's unfair that a loyal customer of 12 years is treated like this, and it's always the new customers that get the deal!!

I live in the middle of nowhere, so don't know if NTL or UPC service the area, but it is definitely something I will look into. Not at all happy with Sky about this.

Cancel your contract and then sign up again. Just use an initial instead of your full name and if you have a different bank account number or use a credit card number for the direct debit you'll be fine. They never check up as far as I know.

I cancelled my contract and then got my missus to apply. Used same bank account and had no problems. Now I have my HD sky box for free..

Thanks for this. Was considering signing up under a different name but was just afraid that they would cop on & then no sky for 1 year!! Thanks for the replies.

Why do they want €190?, I had standard Sky for about 15 years and recently upgraded to Sky+HD, all it cost me was €30 standard installation fee.

I've never heard of people not being able to get it again for 12 months, someone that sells sky once told me that you can use your middle name instead of your first name to sign up again,
it's also worth ringing up again to cancel because my uncle did last year and got the sky+ at no extra charge

Or you could sign up in the Gaeilge version of your name. I've never heard of this 1-year thing. I suspect tha damsel at the other end of the line was telling little porkies:D

    Thanks for the replies.

Yes I couldn't believe this about the 1 year ban thing either but that's what he was told.

I've dutifully informed Daddy dearest of the replies & the power is now in his hands!!! :)
