Hi im just wondering does anyone have any information on a independent skilled Visa. Im a qualified electrician. I was in Australia for a year from march 2009 - 2010 on a working holiday visa ans I am now looking at moving over there for good. The problem is on the information ive found out so far it states that you have to have worked 12 out of the last 24 months in the skill. But because of the year travelling and the recession over here ive only worked 4 months in the last 24 in my trade.

Has anyone else had this problem and does anyone know if there are any other options available to me.

I dont mind what type of visa I have to apply for as long as it gets me over there. Any help will be much appreciated

    Thanks

I have seen people with similar issue in another forum, the answer is just keep working until you meet the requirements.

I have a trade cert in Mechanical production . served my time years ago but left it to become a carpenter .

I am a time served chippy but have no qualification as I did not go to FAS.

    Where do I stand.

If I get a job as an engineer again. spend 1 year retraining . Would I qualify.

I need to get in and would probably go back into construction once there.

You can get your skills assessed in a one day course. You can then be issued with the OZ equivalent of FAS papers and your good to go. Contact one of the visa agents about info on that.

Another option is employer sponsored. For that you require over 3 year(for example) experience in your trade. Try the visa wizard on www.immi.gov.au to see more info.
Finally you might be eligible for a second WHV if you have done more than 80 days regional work.eg farm work or a job in a low population area.

I went to a talk with visafirst they are affiliated with taxback.com . You dont need one at all as with a head on your shoulders and do enough research you can do it no hassle, with an agent the just ask you for stuff, you supply it and hey presto...a visa!!

Price wise im not sure,Im sure its a good few hundred over and above the visa cost.

you're talking about double for an agency.
Also I wouldn't use visafirst for a skilled visa - prob better options out there

Someone recommended 'Liz O'Hagan' from here
    http://www.australianvisaspecialists.com/

    I've used Byron from here

    I have no complaints

    Thank you .

I will be bringing my Fiancé and my child.

She is a manager in Tesco but cant seem to find that job listed in the points table. this is a little worrying .

I also need to brush up on the theory of my trade before any test.

    Just one more question.

Do far away fields look green. Im not expecting emagration to be easy, but I do hear that the whole way of life over there is better , with work and cost of things right down to the people. Is this true? Im thinking of perth as I have a cousin over there.
