Do you remember a boy/girl group from the 80s called Dollar? Well, rumour has it that half of them are playing the RSC. ;)

in limerick they announced last week they would open the new milk market as a concert venue.

today they said that the coronas have signed and tickets are on sale

it took a week to organise with rumours only happening for about 3 weeks. thats a month in total.

the organisers of this event are ................................... well ill say over hyping to be nice

Ah come on, the bloody Coronas who are an Irish band!

Some load of ridiculous tantrams being thrown on this thread, whoever is organising this obviously had their reasons for keeping it quiet and are having a big launch for it at the weekend where it will all be announced.

We get no big gigs down here and here's someone who's trying to fix that yet people still throw their toys out of the pram because they want it done their way. Maybe the lads will learn from this since it's THEIR FIRST TIME ORGANISING A GIG THIS BIG.

    Behave children.

    ^ it's a fair point.

I think regardless if you like the line-up or not ya need to appreciate that what else would be going on the 30th of July? Nothing.

I hope it's a runaway success and the lads can build it into a proper main event on the national music scene.

Well that's not entirely true, Spraoi will going on that weekend! It never rains but it pours as they say ;)

The only people who are talking about this gig are yourselves in this thread. I have'nt heard one person talk about it out in the real world.

The organisers should possibly think about how much more awareness and promotion they will get when they finally announce the acts involved.

Then people might actually have something concrete to talk about other than pure speculation.

I do hope the acts will cover a few bases and not be specialised. I'll prob go if its anyone half decent but I'll speak for alot of people when I say I would'nt cross the road to see 50 cent.

If this concert goes ahead and is a success it'll be a great summer in Waterford for sure.

Surely we're allowed speculate? There's entire threads dedicated to speculating about the lineups for gigs in the music forum!

Indeed we can speculate away. Its the worst kept secret in Waterford but the organisers have asked that we hold fire on naming the acts. It's only 48 hours at this stage so it's pretty much irrelevant.

ComeraghBlue kindly tried to let everyone know who the acts were. If it was up to me I would have put it in the title when the story broke but out of respect for the lads organising I'd appreciate it if we could just wait the two days before we get into that side of it.

Oh right. My apologies, I thought he was saying something like Radiohead and Arcade Fire!

No hassle, I wasn't very clear in the edit so it did look like I was saying that.

Yeah that's true, I've been saying this to my hubby for ages and every time I mention it he says he STILL hasn't heard anybody else talk about it - I think he may think people on boards are just making it up ;) Bit strange because he is a musician and would know a lot of other people in local bands, events organising etc, how come none of them are talking about it?

It seems silly not to let people know. The main reason I use boards.ie is to get up to date information ahead of WLR and the papers.

One thing I will say (at a guess) Beat are launching this on Saturday. I assume to do that the concert is getting some air time on the day and maybe even free/discounted advert time for the next 4 months. Now, if we were to openly blab away here Beat might not like it one bit and pull the plug making it harder for the organisers.

I'm not saying this is the case but for the sake of two days I think its safe to say us openly discussing the acts COULD have a negative effect.

But if it's Waterford's worst kept secret (as some here say) why would anyone care.

Looks like I'm out and wasted my interest in this. I'm sure the lads that are into that type of music will have a blast though.

That's fair enough ziedth and I don't take offence to my post being edited, as you said it's only a matter of 1/2 days before everyone knows. :D

Disgraceful - Someone tries to do a bit of good around here and bring a bit of life to the city which at the moment is shockingly bad and actually make something happen then basically gets shot down before it even gets a chance to take off because of stuck up people and their own opinions.
Moral of the rant is - If ya dont like who's gonna be playing just dont bother your ass going and stop moaning - just because you mightn't want to go doesn't mean someone else doesn't also!!!!

I think the attitude being displayed is more because of the hype campaign that the organisers have used than because of the acts. If you look back, you'll see plenty of comments commending the organisers for trying to do something. However, it seems like an eternity ago that the hype started through this thread and through their facebook page. There's been constant updates saying the same thing - 'it won't be long now', 'just a few loose ends to be tied up' etc. This has pissed people off because they feel that the quality of the rumoured acts doesn't deserve the hype and maybe also because the organisers mentioned at the start that the RSC would cater for 25,000(?) when in reality, they will do well to attract 8,000 to this gig. It also seems likely that the genre of the acts doesn't appeal to anyone on here. If that reflects the general demographic of the South East (and I doubt it does), the gig is in trouble.

I wish them well and hope they can build on this year and attract bigger and better acts next year, but their hype machine needs a few tweaks as all it's done is turn people off tbh.
