Blender

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could recommend me a good blender please?

Just want to use it for soups, oats and nuts.

I had the magic bullet, but it broke yesterday and want to get a bigger one for soups.

Any help would be appreciated,

Do you want me to move this to food and drink? You might get a better response there.

There is a food processor in Aldi this week for 40, looks decent and they are good about returns if you had a problem. For making soups though you probably want a stick blender to blend in the pot, can get them in argos, all pretty much the same although there will be different power motors.

Thanks a million for the response. Looking to spend ~€100 on it. Just really want one for general use. Smoothies, soups, etc.

What broke? you can buy spares on ebay for them. I got a whole new unit on amazon when mine broke, just incase something else goes, also means I have more containers.

The plastic bit of the motor that spins the blades.

I thought about getting another one, but I want to be able to make soup and it really wasn't big enough... Great for everything else mind.

£69.99 on amazon seems expensive to replace it, don't think I originally paid that.

Agentgreen, that is a lot to spend on a general purpose blender. Most blenders are in the €30-60 price range for home use. Once you start looking at semi-commercial brands such as Waring then you're talking €150+. For your budget I would say that you're better off getting a bit more bang for your buck. To that end, here are two recommnedations:

I have a dualit hand blender and I find it much more versatile than having just a tradtional jug blender. I also have a Kenwood Major Chef and the blender attachment for that is great so I would definitely recommend Kenwood as well.

There are some bad reviews but I have to say that I find it brilliant. Once you realise that it is primarily a hand blender with extra attachments designed for light duty, then you should be fine. There are lots of idiots out there who probably thought that they could fill the food processor tub all the way up or blend continuously for 10 minutes. If you use it correctly, you shouldn't have any problems.

Hi agentgreen,

From the list on the pages you linked to I would recommend the following:

Kenwood BL375 would be a good choice if you want a traditional jug blender.

I don't think that there are any significant disadvantages to hand blenders except perhaps that the motor is designed for lighter duty (usually) so you have to keep that in mind when using them. There are some advantages though especially if you are trying to blitz an entire pot of soup in one go. It saves having to blitz it in batches.

As for hand blenders on that page I would recommend either the Kenwood HB724 for value for money or the Waring because they also make the expensive commercial blenders.
