Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

I want to back up windows using an external hard drive that has ubuntu installed and has a partition for backup. What software could I use in ubuntu for this type of backup? (with gui). I want to backup files and folders not make an image of the system.

Format your external disk to run windows?

Robocopy seems to be what you're looking for. Initially I was looking at rsync (but seems that's not properly ported to Windows).

    It's a M$ tool, and I believe there's also a GUI:

you dont want to make an image... just copy files across... cant you do that just with a livecd that has a file browser? the fact that the pc has windows installed has no bearing to the files you are transferring.

Is clonezilla going to make an image of the system?

I'm assuming he wants this to be constant thing, keeping track of changes and not just a one off back-up.

If you just want a one off backup, zip up every folder you want and use winscp to get it to your linux machine.

If you can mount a share from your linux machine, this could be good:
