So not sure if this is the right section but here is my question:

I have a microkorg and microkorg xl in my set up with a distortion pedal & a reverb pedal....

I wanted to let the effects run for both of the synths, but also I was looking for something to trigger a third sound which will be an atmospheric sound. Now I was thinking maybe if I got a 4 channel little mixer I could run them to it...and maybe connect a cd deck to it and have my atmospheric sounds (backing track) on that! But surely there something that would have a hard drive that i could store a wav or mp3 soundfile on...like can you get a little desk where you can store these sounds?

I was searching thru adverts for such thing and was wondering would something like a Zoom MRS4B Multi Track Recorder be something that I'm looking for?

I would love anyones help on this...please reply if u know of any answers

    Thank you very much

I think there's a music production board where you might get more helpful answers than this, but for what it's worth...

I've never come across a desk with a hard drive built into it, unless it's a digital multi-track recorder like the old Roland VS series. If cost is a major factor, you could go with something you might already have like an iRiver H-series (hard drive based) or a Cowon D2 (flash based) player. These are just examples of devices I've seen used to play back WAVs - I'm sure there are more up to date models from these manufacturers, but make sure whatever you use will play 16 bit or 24 bit WAVs, not just MP3s, unless you're happy to use compressed file formats. The main drawback with these consumer-level devices is that the physical audio output is usually a minijack, which is not ideal.

Better would be something with unbalanced (RCA) or balanced outputs. But this would cost a bit more, and you're starting to get into multitrack recorders here.

If you have a laptop, the simplest - and probably cheapest - solution would be to buy a cheap USB sound card with a single pair of physical outputs and run it into your desk. An external sound card will be far better than the on-board one; those are always pretty noisy, invariably being positioned too close to internal electrical components such as fans/power supplies etc.

    Hope some of that helps...
