Computer Masters

    Is there any major differences between a computer science masters and a software engineering masters? Would career opportunities be the same?
    I read in an article online that Software Engineering is not Computer Science is that true?

    I would say that Software Engineering falls under the umbrella of Computer Science as Computer Science is a very broad term. In my uni Software Engineering was classified as a Specialist MSc Program whereas the MSc in Computer Science was a Generalist MSc Program. I think the distinction is that admissions to the Specialist MSc Program needed to come from backgrounds where you had been exposed to programming (Comp Sci, Engineering, Phys, Maths) whereas admissions to the Generalist Program could be anyone.

    To be honest, if you have a background in any of the above areas then I would say an MSc in Comp Sci is too broad and you should know what area you would like to specialise in.

    I'm currently trying to decide whether to complete a general computer science masters or a specific computing masters. So at odds really. I'd like to go into multimedia/internet security. I come from a computer and business background mainly business informatics and a bit of computer science just that I have noted that some computer science masters seems to have various modules in those courses like multimedia, programming subjects as well as innovation/enterprise subjects, technical writing maybe, databases, networking etc. Is it that its too vast and wide a course that it only hits the surface of what IT is all about? Would a standard computer science masters be more suited to a person with a business informatics background? And that a specific computer masters be more suited for someone who has had a computing/science degree and be more specialised in a certain area of IT?
