    2011-02-21

The Cage Warriors Fighting Championship returns to London this Saturday night for their first show of the New Year, as the famous HMV Forum in Kentish Town plays host to another quality Cage Warriors event.

Headlined by the eagerly anticipated Women's Super Flyweight (125lbs) clash between the well known female UK MMA star Rosi "The Surgeon" Sexton (11-2) and the Japanese based American Roxanne "The Happy Warrior" Modafferi (15-6).

This event has been getting well deserved attention from around the world due to both women's global appeal, having both competed around the world for some of the World's elite events and also because of their current standing in the Women's Unified Rankings. As Sexton is ranked third in the world at 125lbs, whilst Modafferi (who makes her debut in the 125lbs division) is ranked fifth at 135lbs, with both women's making the top 15 in the Women's pound-for-pound rankings.

Ever since the fight was announced fans from around the world have asked the CWFC team if the event will be broadcast and after weeks of talks; Cage Warriors can now announce that they will be streaming this event for FREE live on their website CageWarriors.com on Saturday evening. To receive the live stream, users will have to register on the Cage Warriors front page (please note that forum logins will not work) and click on the 'Fight TV' page.

Please note there will be limited viewing slots so please register as soon as possible to ensure your spot.

The stream will also feature at least another four other bouts from the stacked CWFC 40 event, which will see the reigning CWFC Bantamweight Champion Paul "Metabolic" McVeigh (17-6) defend his Title against the German Judoka Andreas "Minigun" Bernhard (7-1). Whilst also featuring on the live stream will be the UFC "Ultimate Fighter" season 12 participant Joseph Duffy (7-0), the explosive Icelandic striker and 2006 CWFC Welterweight Tournament winner Arni "The Ice Viking" Isaksson (10-3), and the inaugural Scottish Fight Challenge Tournament winner Graham "Afterburner" Turner (17-6-1) and more.

More information will follow in the next few days as the CWFC prepare to go global this coming Saturday with another action packed event.

Cage Warriors are pleased to announce their Cage Warriors 40 event will be broadcast in Ireland on Monday 7th March on Setanta Sports 1 at 10pm. This will be the second time that Cage Warriors will be shown on the Irish Sports channel, having debut there on Christmas Eve last year with Cage Warriors 39: The Uprising.
Cage Warriors 40 took place late last month and saw the highly regarded UK based Mixed Martial Arts promotion return to London with an 11 bout pro fight card which saw a mix of top MMA talent from the UK, Ireland, Europe and the USA battle it out inside the CWFC cage.
As with their previous televised event, the Main Event sees the number 3 world ranked British star Rosi “The Surgeon” Sexton (11-2) return to Irish screens for the second time inside three months. Sexton battles the Japanese based American Roxanne “The Happy Warrior” Modafferi (15-6) on home turf for the first time in over five years, having travelled the world to face elite opposition since November 2005. Whilst the former Strikeforce veteran Roxanne Modafferi, dropped down a weight class to face the Mother-of-one and was keen to showcase her skills that have seen her become one of the best known female fighters on the circuit and have also seen her ranked fifth in the World at 135 lbs.
The telecast also sees the long time CWFC Bantamweight Champion Paul “Metabolic” McVeigh (17-6-0) defend his Title for the fourth time, as he faced the German Judoka Andreas “Minigun” Bernhard (7-1-0). The Scottish based Irishman is ranked number one in Europe by the German website Groundandpound.de and fifteenth in the world by MMASpot.net.
The Irishman defends his Title against the diminutive German knowing a win will push him closer to a possible shot in the lucrative US market. Whilst despite his lack of height, the 5 foot 1 inch German is not to be underrated due to his experience in the European Judo and Combat Sambo circuit, which saw him finish third in last year’s World Combat Sambo Championships. Known for his speed, ground and pound, he is an awkward proposition for the reigning European number one.
Also featuring on the televised portion of the card is the Irish “Ultimate Fighter” season 12 contestant Joseph Duffy (7-0-0) who looks to build on his perfect record against fellow Countryman Tom Maguire (7-4-0). Duffy returns to Cage Warriors on the back of a 38 second submission victory over Conor McGregor last November in Cork City. Duffy will be looking to show why he’s one of Europe’s most promising talents when he squares-up against Maguire, who is 10 years his senior and can draw on his own experiences in the boxing ranks. Whilst both men will also want to keep their respective streaks going, which has seen Duffy win all 7 of his bouts inside a round; whilst Maguire has seen all of his 7 wins come by way of submission.
The rising Scottish striker Graham “Afterburner” Turner (17-6-1) also looks to keep busy against the tough Lithuanian Shooto veteran Antanas Jazbutis (11-8). This bout was signed after injury prevented the CWFC Featherweight Champion Danny Batten from defending his Title against Turner. The Scottish Kickboxer now has to negotiate a tough Lightweight bout against a man who has tormented previous opponents with an array of unorthodox kicks, supported by a solid submission game once action hits the floor.
Viewers will also see an explosive Middleweight encounter between two unbeaten local Middleweights as Brett Sizeland (3-0) from Essex, battles the London Shootfighters team member Tony Machado (3-0). Whilst the experienced former British Champion Ashleigh Grimshaw (9-7-1) takes on French import Ismael Padavia (4-2). Grimshaw makes his CWFC debut on his return bout which sees him fight in front of his hometonwn fans for the first time in over two years, as he battles the Fabricio Werdum BJJ purple belt.
So if you want to relive the action that saw top quality MMA action return once again to the HMV Forum in London, then tune into Setanta Sports tin Ireland on Monday night at 10pm as Cage Warriors returns to Irish screens with another stacked International line-up.
