Its the standard internet moron reply when theyve nothing to actually contribute to the topic. HURR DURR SOUTH PARK QUOTE
Anyway, arent there now hundreds of thousands of houses sitting empty in ghost estates? Bung them in there. You want a free house, there you go, beggars cant be choosers now can they

Thats the point i think some pepple are trying to make. Why should ANYBODY be entitled to a free house???Im sure if you went to another country and walked into their equivelant Social Welfare office and demanded a house you know what youd be told!

I suppose the best way to deal with this issue is to sort by national obligation (They probably already do):

    1. Irish
    2. EU
    3. Non EU

It does not really matter how many people are on the list. I would be interested to find out what the allocation figures are. That is more important. People should not be afraid to discuss these issues. It is not about race or colour. Its simple obligation.

Rents and house prices are being kept falsely high in relation to cut incomes for the sake of the banks that we all now own. As soon as they are sold you will see dramatic house price drops as the new buyers will factor that into their price to buy the banks. €1

It is ridiculous. Ive worked my whole life since leaving school, bar one year when i was unemployed. Ive worked through **** jobs after **** jobs before finally getting a decent qualification and now work in a respectable position. Ive payed thousands upon thousands in taxes in all that time, and what am i entitled to? **** all. I probably cant even get a ****ing rebait. But if i knocked up some slut, quit my job, and claimed i was disadvantaged im sure id gets me a nice free house

So what, do you know the amount of people of Irish descent are living in social housing in the UK?

    2%?

    http://www.herald.ie/national-news/city-news/over-half-on-housing-list-are-foreign-2549208.html

Unusual for a councillor to come out and say something like that, also shows alot of people leaving the country too i guess.

It's funny how so many Irish are emigrating due to hardship and lack of employment, yet our foreign friends are still here having a ball. No sign of them ****ing off. Proves the point, they were never here to work...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 47 Hill Bicks

So 50,000 a year are leaving the country 450,000 people are unemployed many thousands are losing there homes yet most of the people on the housing list are non-Irish and half of them are non EU.

Did i miss something....what county in the world apart from here and Britain would allow this nonsense to continue!!! we'll send our own away to work,to Canada, America, Australia, New Zealand will they receive housing and benefits where ever they end up? perhaps in Britain but absolutely nowhere else will they receive anything at all for a very very long time
and not liking this and thinking its more then a little insane makes me a loud obnoxious racist(durka durka) guess I'll stay quiet in case I offend anyone.

Plenty of people who came to Ireland for work during the boom years have also left to work elsewhere. Are you saying that all foreign nationals in Ireland are on the dole and receiving benefits? I'm sure its a ball living on the breadline alright

What about all the irish people who can't be bothered to work and expect handouts?

ALL, no. Many did come here and did work hard. And, many have left too. But, I am talking about the many who came to sponge, and who are still ****ing here sponging. There are many. Like I said, no sign of them ****ing off to look for work.

As for the Irish, like any country, we/they all have our own spongers. That doesn't mean we should have
to put up with foreign ones too.

And, take the gypos here who spend their day robbing and begging on the streets and then they
head home to their tax paid house, warm fire, tv...Yes, to them that is one hell of a ball. What a way to live.

How many rental houses does Frank Fahy (Fianna Failure) own again - 40 is it?

And this was the guy who was dismissing every argument about the bank/property bailouts when he was on the finance committee, insulting and arguing with guys like Peter Matthews who were working for free trying to save the Irish taxpayer from the hands of the IMF...

Why should we bung them anywhere?

Why should a family of Nigerians be given a free house in a semi-built housing estate next door to an Irish family who are stuck there paying a mortgage on a house for the rest of their lives.

The Nigerians have contributed nothing and are living rent free while the Irish family who are paying their taxes are struggling to survive..

    Is this fair?

This really gets to me! I don't mind if a person comes to our country to work and benefit our economy. I don't care what nationality they are or if their skin is multi-coloured.

I do mind a scrounger coming into our country taking the pi$s out of "soft touch" Ireland! It annoys me that you can work your arse off, with everyones wages cut, and struggle to pay your mortgage and bills every week, have a pretty much non existent social life as a result of this and some fella takes it all while sitting on his ass doing nothing, with no intention of ever working!

Before I get linched by all the PC crowd, again I'm talking any nationality, be it Irish or Nigerian!

An example I seen with my own two eyes the other day (slightly off topic). I was sick and paid €50 that I don't have to the doctor. As I waited in the chemist for my prescription, an eastern European woman with her two kids,( in the most stylish clothes) received a huge bag of medication, one for each of her two children and one for herself. It was pretty obvious they had a flu. She was asked to pay the government levy of €1.50 in which she through a wobbly about. So her GP fees where free with a M.C and her medication was free.

When I had to pay my medication bill is came to €80, on top of my €50 which in total was €130! It made me so angry witnessing this crap! We can't afford this anymore....the new government have to do something!!!

I'm sorry for my rant, and I'll prob get linched

I wasn't shocked to discover that when I skipped from page one to the last page that it went from 50% of the housing list are foreign nationals (of which 30% are outside EU)

    lovely.

People will tell you that there is no way non nationals are living rent free, that they will not receive anything from the social 20 euro a week i was told, well from the article it says that most on the people on the list wait up to six years to get a house and while they are waiting they are on rent allowance so they ARE having their rent paid in a country they or their forbears have contributed little or nothing to.

I know and I really think people are too protective and over reacting to things now adays. Someone could prob accuse me of being racist by my last post, and I made sure to be careful of my choice of wording in it! The simple fact is this; we as a country are flat broke and this all needs to come to a halt pretty sharpish or everything will really go down the swanny!

Out of curiosity, why do we have to allow so many Nigerians in to the country in the first place?

I have no problem with EU Nationals coming here, working for a few years, paying their taxes and then receiving social welfare during the recession. They have as much right as anybody else.

But what have the Nigerians contributed and under what laws can we not stop them from coming in and claiming welfare seeing as our country is near bankrupt?

    A genuine question!

I wouldnt be afraid to say youre pissed off over it out of fear of being labelled a racist. Youve a right to be pissed off, because it isnt fair. No other country would bend over backwards to please foreigners out of fear of being labelled as racists, and its such an easy insult to throw around now. Not getting your way? Racism! I saw it with my own eyes on Friday. A black woman was asked to move to let a woman with a pram sit down on the bus, you know what she screamed at the driver? youre a racist! ****ing ridiculous. Personally im sick to death of the Irish pussyfooting and tiptoeing around this issue. Everybodies so afraid of being called a racist they wont speak up about **** like this when its just a matter of asking for equality. If she gets her meds for 1.50, i do too. If someone from zimbabwe gets their rent payed for by the state, i should ****ing too.

The housing list has to be done away with. Nobody deserves a free house. I dont care if they pay minimal rent, its Ludicrous that people can get houses like this. Have loads of kids you cant afford - get a cheap house. What sort of society is that suppose to be. I dont care if its Johnny Foreigner or Johnny Player Blue, its just farcical.

Sometimes I wonder just how close we are getting to fundementalist right wing America, when I read posts like this.

You know, not everyone in society is fortunate enough to be able to afford a mortgage or extortionate rent. Do you think these people should live on the streets? Is that the sort of society you'd like instead?

Yes, the immigration situation in this country needs to be tackled sensibly, but to lump all council house tennants (of which I am one) into one derogatory pigeon hole is insulting beyond belief.

Many council tennants work, lead productive lives and pay more than 'minimal rent'. Many upgrade to private mortgages if they find themselves able to do so. We are not all lazy scroungers out to screw the taxpayer (of which I am also one) for all they're worth.

You know, we have people on one hand complaining about reckless people buying houses they couldn't afford, people complaining about extortionate rents and then people complaining about council tennants. What's the fairest solution, in your view?

Yes but every country will have a certain % of spongers who have never worked a day in their lives and claim every cent they can. There is nothing that can be done about this. We just have to pay for these and get on with it.

Well, if half the list are foreign and 30% of that are non eu (bearing in mind that you said you don't mind the eu immigrants), that means a mere 15% of the housing list are who you are taking issue with.

So, yeah 85% are Irish or eu, so clearly they ARE getting their rent paid by the state ****ing too

I have no problem? Would you also agree that a foreigner should have to pass a test of english to be allowed to work here? The amount of times ive heard mates say they understand how to be specific about their wages but if u get onto them about making a mistake they play the 'i dont understand' card. It's about time we stuck up for ourselves for a change.

Couldnt agree with you more. I work with a lot of foreigners and they spend their time pretending they dont understand me particularly if they make a mistake.... but if their wages are wrong, they become fluent english speakers..

Yes but our economy is fuc.ked and we need to look at every aspect of expenditure to help our recovery. Not continue on about or failed banking system..

Many people would view providing housing, social welfare etc. to African immigrants who have never paid any taxes as an unnecessary expenditure...

I might be wrong but the biggest foreign group in Ireland are Brits.
How do we know it's the Nigerians that are the group living on welfare/free houses etc? Anyone any numbers?
