The Construction Industry Federation has claimed that, apart from schools and water services, new infrastructure projects are 'at a virtual standstill'.

The CIF says its monthly analysis of public construction notices shows that just €70,800 worth of new tenders were announced in January.

The CIF says this is substantially below the value of public infrastructure projects signalled by the Government in the Budget.

CIF director of policy Martin Whelan said that even the substantially reduced investment targets announced in December's Budget will not be met.

He said this would affect the achievement of economic growth and employment forecasts in the National Recovery Plan.

The CIF called on the incoming government to publish a list of projects with which it intended to proceed, along with a timescale for their commencement.
