    Hi All

hoping to go to Oz on a WHV in August. Would like to stop somewhere for 2-3 nights on the way (just to add another country to the list!)
Will be travelling from Dublin to Adelaide or Melbourne.

Only thing is it's my first time travelling alone or anywhere outside Europe or USA so I'm nervous about arriving in a strange city all alone & jet lagged! Would love some suggestions as to where would be interesting to see but not to scary or difficult to cope with!
    Thanks :o

Why only 2 or 3 nights? Go to Thailand and spend a couple of days in Bangkok and then head to the islands for two weeks.

Don't worry about travelling on your own - plenty of others in this boat and you will meet up with people in hostels.

    Hi, thanks for the replies.

Keedowah, am planning to meet friends in Thailand for a few weeks on the way home. So was considering Singapore or Hong Kong on the way over, would love opinions on which one is more worth seeing /easier to navigate

Having done Singapore before and am currently in Thailand right now. Thailand is several times more interesting than Singapore, far cheaper and is far better than Singapore in my own opinion.

Maybe Dubai or Vietnam? Also China (Shanghai or HK would be an option) If you don't want to do Thailand.

Hong Kong is more interesting than Singapore but everyone still speaks English and they have toilet paper. A while back Malaysian Airlines were doing a stopover special where you got a free internal flight to one of the islands if you fancy a beach holiday. You could see orangutans in the jungle!!

Within a few years it will be possible to use it as the stop off as with when the A350 enters service it will be possible to go non-stop from Europe to Auckland or Sydney.
