Wowburger, Elephant and Castle and Captain A’s are all part of the same group and are using Captain A’s as a takeaway location. Dollard & Co is another but I’m not sure if they’ve expanded it to Cork.

    Ah, makes sense

Wonder is there much of a difference between them. Elephant And Castle are very expensive. 5.75 for chips

Had K.Cs Saturday. Had a pulled pork chicken. There was so much mayo and lettuce in the pitta I ended up feeling sick from it. Was Horrendous ****e. Would gladly never eat from them again

Its greasy slop but people of cork seem to love to eat **** food like this, Luigi's, Scoozis.

I wonder how many drivers they have on the road. I saw two at the window during the week. I imagine its costly paying 2 or more drivers every night , hence the fee and minimum order charge of €20. I reckon they will abandon the delivery service when they reopen which would be a shame as it would balance out the queuing system

Ordered Son of a Bun last night, got my usual and it was just as good as ever. Delighted to have them open again.

Same chips anyway but different menus. I'm a big fan of both.

I think the likes of Scoozi and Luigi's have their place - relatively cheap, casual, cocktails. They're handy for teenagers eating out, family groups and cheap staff dos.
Difference is you don't see queues outside them and no one claims that they are the best in the world at what they do.

I don't know how they did it but fair play to KCs for becoming a legendary success with average food offerings.

I guess, 30 years ago, the pita menu was different to almost any chipper in Ireland and people liked it and kept going. I don't get the fuss, myself, but I wish them well. I used to enjoy their fish and chips some years ago.

Ecos is incredibly popular too and that is, imo, a shockingly bad restaurant - I'd go to Scoozi or Luigi's any day over it (if I had to:rolleyes:).

I see on FB Eco's are making a killing on selling 10 packets of their sauces for 50 quid.

Well, that's the menu... what differentiates them too is the suppliers. They use real meat from local butchers in the burgers, chip their own spuds, put a bit of effort into the ingredients. Listing suppliers and having good relationships with them was normal there a long time before it was even done in posh restaurants. And it's still relatively unusual in your ordinary chipper. (Shout out to the golden fry though, who do a great job with this!)

I think they are struggling with quality during this lockdown though. I wouldn't go near there til it's over.

Eco's isn't my bag either. Big portions, bland-ish food. Give the people what they want though, eh. When I saw their take-away options at the moment, it's the same pricepoint as Greenes and Glass Curtain... 20 euro a head for 2 courses.

Had Spitjacks the other day. Delicious food. Really couldn't fault it, and really hope they continue a take out service like this after normality sinks back in.

Sorry if it's a bit off track but a good home cook show on RTE tonight with Mark Moriarty, of The Green House Restaurant.
A professional, not a show guy.

Their food looks v overpriced too. Its 13 or 14 euro for fish and chips. No reason to get chipper for that price when you have the likes of dennys and the golden fry around the corner with equal qulity.

The Grange one is very nice, Turners Cross is after going to the dogs.

Best Dinos is probably Douglas with decent portions and efficient staff, the one in Bishopstown has always been very skimpy with their portion sizes.

I have to disagree on the Douglas one, in the last few years I felt it has gone to the dogs and it's partly due to the staff. Two very cranky women who are hopeless at managing orders and dealing with a queue. The amount of confusion between them about orders etc is laughable.

I always head to Turners Cross myself rather than Douglas. Much nicer chips. Never actually realised there was one in Grange though...might give it a try.

Just got koto. Simple to do. Rang in the order, told 15 minutes, drive in, guy waiting at the table and food handed over. Nearly identical to the restaurant portions which is great.

The new Japanese restaurant "Okura" opened up today for the first time in Douglas Village. Only takeaways at the moment obviously.

Hope they do well, tough time to start a business.

Will be trying them after the weekend.

They seem to be doing a good trade from what I've seen in the carpark queue for collection. In laws had their usual curry from there last weekend and enjoyed it at €13.95. I wouldn't get a take away burger from anywhere tbh as it's going to be cold when you get home no matter where you get it.

Just got Jacques take away. I should of heeded the red flag when I rang up to order. Collection by 5pm, and it needs to be cooked when you get home.

Got a fish pie with a small green salad and dessert. The pie was nice, but only marginally better than what one would get in SuperValu and bung in the oven.

Pretty disappointed for €35 to be honest. Maybe other meals are better value, but sadly I won't be going back to check them out after this.

I did buy a nice bit of wine from feed your senses. Gonna miss them.

Love wabisabi, they're my favourite for quick lunch in town. Particularly enjoy the udon soups (the broth is fantastic) and their bento boxes, which are pretty good value I think.

Haven't tried Okura to compare though.

    35 euro,was that for one?

    If so, that's crazy

35 euro fed the 2 of us, just. I actually wasn't that hungry at the time we ate but still all gone. Granted it was tasty, but small. About the size of a fish pie you'd get in SuperValu for €7.

The crumble desert we topped up with ice cream. It was like ordering 1 desert, 2 spoons.

Plus one to wabisabi one of my go to places in town for a quick lunch there Ramon is lovely,

Got a take away from them last week spent I think 28 euros but me and my girlfriend were so full after it and could not move !!!

Following the advice of the good folks here, we got burgers from the fish wife last night.....

Shhhhhhhtap! Absolutely savage, the meat itself tasted exactly like the ones we used to get from the butchers back home donkeys years ago. I was firmly in the "why go to the fish wife and not get fish" camp, but I agree with others here that its easily one of the best in town.

I'm not sure of the name of the one I get but it's one of the cheapest on the menu, 2 patties, 2 slices of bacon and 2 slices of smoked cheese as well as onion and tomato (which is just wrong on a burger🀢)
Fantastic value and I've yet to have a better burger in town and I include the fancy burger joints in that.

Fish wife burgers are good, alright.
Only burger in town as good or better is Bunsen, IMO.
Went off Fish Wife after some extremely poor customer service, though.

I find Bunsen quite overpriced for what you get.

It was damn tasty what we got though. Seriously tasty burger.

Just had spitjack for the second time there. Excellent again. Their chips suffer from a bit of sweating on the drive home, but everything else is top notch.

Got pizza from Burnt this evening. Meh. It was okay. Nothing is on par with Pompeii pizza but they were not taking orders when we were having dinner. Order was rejected through Deliveroo. Must have been busy I’m guessing.

Tried the new Japanese restaurant in Douglas the other night.

    Okura it's called.

Very good portion sizes and very tasty, fresh food. Lovely presentation too, even for takeaway. Would definitely recommend. Nice fish rice bowls - I had the Duck Tepanyaki combo which came with loads of stuff - miso soup, tasty veg, lovely garlic fried rice too. Very, very nice.

Good to support them too. Must be very hard opening up during all this.

I got Bocellis on Deliveroo tonight, I had the Tagliatelle Prestrige which was really delicious and excellent value for money.
I used to go there quite frequently before coronavirus and I’ve never had a bad meal in there. It’s about as authentic Italian as you’ll get in Ireland.
They're quite off the beaten track so I hope they survive the lockdown and the aftermath of all this, I’d be very sorry to see them have to close.

    A Burger is €7.45
That's all I've ever had there.
I think it's a very fair price for the size and quality.
