Why should 'Single Feed Mode' be set to ON for communal systems?

On the Sky forum website below the 'LNB Reset' section states:

Single Feed Mode OFF (or ON for communal systems)

Again, this info is reiterated in the "Single feed process" section.

Why should 'Single Feed Mode' be set to ON for communal systems?

Are they assuming all apartments on a shared dish only get one feed? or is their some technical reason why this should be set to ON even if you have 2 feeds?

Have had Sky+ for 3 years on a communal system and never heard of any recording restrictions, nor have I had any recording problems.

They are assuming there is only one feed.

I just got a Sky HD box (but no sub) so although I have about 9 spare feeds, I've put the box in single feed mode and only connected one feed. No recording without sub, so no need for 2nd feed.

I have PC with 2 x PCI DVB-S2 cards & dual DTT stick for recording and playback via HDMI so the Sky HD box is just for BBC red button really.

Cheers Watty, thought as much but as I'm having loss of signal on a new HD box I was starting to think it was related.

Keep an eye out for intermittent signal problems on your new HD box, they seem to be ocurring a lot recently on some boxes!

It's an old box I got cheap.

No intention of subscribing and couldn't afford a Freesat HD box at the moment. It's for the family's convenience
