Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Using a USB wireless adaptor in an old desktop

My laptop's motherboard has packed it in so I'm trying to access the net on an old Packard Bell I Media 5601 desktop that I have since 2002. I've installed a Netgear N300 USB wireless adaptor and it's picking up my eircom broadband signal no problem, but I can't connnect to the internet.

I have XP and IE 6. I've tried to set up a new connection in IE but it only gives the option for dial up or VPNs and doesn't seem to allow for wireless connections. I've configured the TCP/IP as per the eircom Help but no joy. I did a ping but no replies. There's no option to set the wireless connection as my default connection.

It does say that I've installed a hi-speed device in a slow USB drive and it may run slower, so is that the problem or should it work anyway? Is it just that my old desktop is just that bit too old and never heard of a USB adaptor?? I've done everything I can think of but I'm sure someone out there will have the answer.

    Thanks

go into the router, browse to 192.168.1.1, switch off the security, you should see icon oin tray, lower lright of screen, click wifi icon, click view avaidable networks, click, refresh, click connect to the network you want,.
YOU,LL need to put in username, password, usb speed should make no difference.
FOR USB wifi you,ll have to install the windows driver for the usb wifi unit first. There should be an install cd with the unit, whats the model no,eg zygel 340lta
it might be easier buy a p4 1.5ghz pc on adverts.ie 60 euro ,install xp on it and go from there.you might need to update xp to sp1 at least.
