Required Electrical Testing

Would anyone know what the required or advised testing is for a new installation and how they're carried out.

Would you go to the extend of a insulation test on all cables?

How do you test the integrity of the earth?

How is a loop fault impedance done and what does it tell you?

Yes, an insulation resistance test would be carried out. One test would confirm integrity of all circuits.

You test the integrity of the earth by visual inspection and carrying out the fault loop impedance test.

This is done with a meter specifically designed for this job. You basically connect the probes to the live/neutral/earth and it measures the impedance. This is basically the resistance to earth and will determine the potential short circuit current.

You would also test the continuity of earths, carry out polarity tests, RCD test, function test.

If there are ring circuits you would also test the continuity of the conductors.

Are these tests for a new supply or have you supply in place. There is a strong likelyhood a certificate will need to be issued. Have you thought of that?

Anyone have a link or guide to earth loop impedance testing.

Can this be used to measure the integrity of a earth bar?

Could someone give me a model number of a tester

    Megger LT310

They come with crocodile clips. Connect one to the earth bar, one to the neutral bar and hold one against a live terminal and press the big test buttton :)

Alternatively, some come with a plug connection. Simply plug it in and press test.

If you want to test the earth bar, connect the meter on the consumer side of the bar. Out of curiosity, what has you concerned about the earth bar?
