Without a doubt Ciaran Hinds is currently the best Irish actor.

    can we claim daniel day-lewis?

It seems he is Irish, became an Irish citizen in 1993, irish passport and his mother was Irish too, so I guess he can be a candidate.

And on that note I would go with Daniel Day Lewis. As well as being my favourite actor, he has also given some of the best performances i've seen. I.E In the Name of the Father and How Many Miles To Babylon

    Honorable mentions to
    Liam Neeson
    Richard Harris
    Micheal Gambon
    Pierce Brosnon

He makes Keith Duffy look good - and that is an amazing achievement!

I always had a soft spot for Patrick Bergin. I like his easy going attitude and the fact that he'll take any, and I mean ANY acting role offered to him, no matter how good or bad:)

    Richard Harris
    Colm Meaney
    Brendan Gleeson

Also Robert Sheehan could join that list if he keeps up the good work.
