So I just took on a new foster Elmo, an Irish setter. He arrived this morning, direct from his owners and the rescue rep left all his paraphernalia including his papers. So nosying through them a name caught my eye and I rooted out Buddys papers (that his owner gave me when I rehomed him). Turns out Buddys mother is Elmos grandmother:D

That's lovely, but it really annoys me. The breeder should take the dog back, no matter how old it is. If people only bought from reputable breeders, then we wouldn't have the rescue crisis that we now do.

    Totally agree.
I'm not sure if they even tried going back to the breeder. They aren't the same though, Buddys mother is still owned by the breeder so one of her pups was sold to a different breeder as his name is on Elmos papers. I actually contacted Buddys breeder last year, she posted on an Irish setter page that I follow and I messaged her through it. She used Buddys mother to breed as her father was a show champion so had a few litters with her.

Poor Peach went in for her appointment with the specialist this morning, who is an absolutely lovely vet! The news isn’t as bad as it could be, she has a corneal sequestrum, so basically an ulcer that healed wrong and part of the cornea has died off. So she is currently undergoing surgery to have the dead part removed and a graft put over it so they vet is hopeful her vision should be perfect after :) we could have left alone and kept going with drops but it would have taken months to heal if ever, but at least with the surgery it should be over and done with once it heals

Must be the time of year for it, I've had Tiffi at vets with sore eye, Jake all bunged up in the nose, Oliver peeing blood, and Toby is currently in vets since yesterday after a fight, his foot was bitten and pad torn, needed to be knocked out and cleaned. All in 3 weeks, waiting on results for Oliver, hoping its stones he's passing and not bladder cancer 😥

Oh Lucy was like that last week - a bit sniffly and eyes running but was fine after 2 days! The other fella seems to be healing fine. I had the email from last time of what they found and what antibiotics he was on etc etc so vet went with that.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,003 ✭✭✭SillyMangoX

Shes back home again now, the vet was very happy with how everything went and she didn’t end up needing the graft so made it a small bit cheaper for us too :pac: so hopefully it’ll all heal up perfectly now and there won’t be any more trouble with it. She was going around the house upset all afternoon and my mother couldn’t figure what was wrong with her, til I finished work and she hopped straight up on my knee for cuddles. I won’t be allowed to move for the night!

Ah great news about Peach! B.B. on antibiotics for the MONTH! Vet not taking any chances €€

Lol I posted that same poem on my grooming Facebook page earlier :pac:

Peach is looking way better today, her eye is opening more than it has for months and she’s not trying to swipe at it as much when I give her a break from the cone to give herself a bath. Though it is kinda creepy seeing stitches in her eye :o

Kovu has an ongoing feud with a stray ginger tom. His poor face looks like Freddie Kruger got at it, came back one day with blood pumping from above his eye :( He's also managed to completely lose one back claw at the butt, presumably left in ginger somewhere!! Will that grow back or is it gone forever?

My Parrotlet has just built a little nest for herself of ripped up newspapers. Now I am going to try to remove it. If you don't hear back from me. She probably killed me.

The stray outdoor stinky tom cat ( who apparently used to live here years ago..) has been crying out today and not his usual tomcall...

Neighbours when I came here told me not to feed him as "he gets chicken at home" and to watch when I fed my cats; i they feed their cats outside. NO WAY!

Also his behaviour has changed. He keeps kind of lying in wait in high places, like the roof of the old shed, watching me. Drives the dog crazy as she is half bassett and a scent hound so she can smell him but not find him

Listening to the crying today.. when all of mine were inside I put out a small amount of food. Closed the door, went out later and he had eaten it. Also he had sprayed the dish, the door and yes, my washing... Had to scrub my hands.. phew.. pepe le phew

So I gave him a decent portion.

Next time the food will be a lot further away from the house and so on..

    It is wondrously quiet now...

I'm alive....... I made it....... I handle the worst of dogs sometimes but this Sparrow Sized Parrot, yes she really is tiny, has some attitude on her.

So, I'm spending my St Patrick's day sitting on the floor with Oliver, trying to keep him quiet.
He went in for an ultrasound scan yesterday on his bladder as he's been peeing blood on and off and seemed in pain. Vet took bloods, did scan then x-ray all without sedation and he was so good for her.
Unfortunately he needed an op as he had a big stone in his bladder which he had no hope of passing. He's very anxious and sore today, even with pain meds. Poor boy has had a bad time the last year.

    Thanks
He's eating a bit now, was getting worried he loves his food, he's calmed down a bit too.

He might have felt a bit sick from the anaesthetic, not to mention the pain and anxiety. He’ll probably be much brighter tomorrow, dogs have an amazing ability to recover quickly!

What I notice is that dogs do not put a brave face on when they are sick or in pain. They suffer fully and show it. Seems to be a better way of coping than putting on that brave face. Scares us silly though.

:eek::eek::eek::eek: Bloody hell it's really snowing!.. AGAIN

I went to the park early - one min it was fine the next a full on blizzard and I could barely see in front of me! A bit of a fright when I saw blood in the snow - poor Lucy cut one of her pads but it had stopped bleeding by the time we were home so I think it should be fine with a dressing and sock. Luckily when we were trying different types of booties for Bailey I held on to the bigger ones from zooplus in case I needed to cover a bandage! She's already patrolled the garden with the boot on and no probs

And still the huskies of the West wait for the snow ........

I'm looking after a friend's dog for the day, they've left me a box of chocolates as a thank you, I'm thinking its a lie on the couch watching TV stuffing my face with chocolates kind of an afternoon. :D We don't have the snow, but we have the baltic wind, dogs have all been walked, and are curled up asleep, I'm sure they won't object

The Borders send their apologies but wanted the Huskies to know that they are having great fun out in it.
