He could learn an awful lot off Zola, I see it as a good move. Watford play some nice footie under him. If he can't hold down a regular position and shine, then he'll never make the grade at Tottenham.

They're free scoring, 7 in 2 at the moment. Could be a great move for both, if Watford have the strikers to put the through balls away - and they seem to.

Is Alderwield the last player we need?

Anymore would seriously alter the squad an awful lot? Could take time to gel and get on the same wavelength.

I was just looking through our in and out transfers. I was wondering if anyone on here had any idea as to what our wage bill is like this year compared to last year?

Sure weve spent money but recuperated 20 million through the sales of Hudd, Dempsey and Caulker. But I wondered what kind of money wed be saving through their wages alongwith Bentley, gallas, bostock and livermore? Anyone any ideas?

we need a creative midfielder assuming Bale goes.

We needed that anyway, Bale wasnt playing that role he was more of a pure attacking midfielder for a finish last year. Dembele plays the creative role at the moment but he is not in the same style as a Modric playmaker type. Eriksson from Ajax is apparently like this though I haven't seen too much of him

Looks like Scotty is gone soon too. Not surprised, and i wish him all the best (assuming he agrees).

The Parker of 2 or 3 seasons ago - I'd be gutted. The Parker of last season - I'd drive him there myself.

Fee agreed between ourselves and QPR re: Parker. Apparently prefers Fulham but hesitating because of a substantial promotion bonus at QPR.

He will leave one way or another. I wish him well, always liked that he gave 360%.

But not when he ran around with the ball in 360 degrees

STRAP ON YOUR HELMETS, JIM WHITE WILL LOVE THIS!

    "again, we haven't finished"

"You recognised that last year, at certain stages particularly March, April, when we were involved in the Europa League and the Premier League at the same time when we were struck by injuries it made us try to look for alternatives that sometimes didn’t work."

"So our idea is to build a team that has two players, three in the goalkeeper’s case, per position. That allows us to keep same quality without the squad dropping too many levels in terms of consistency for the whole season. If we manage to complete all the things we have in mind our objective is to get into the Champions League and to establish ourselves in the top four."

"Regarding the league, we won’t change our ambitions and our speech. But if we can make all of the deals that we have planned for the remaining weeks hopefully we can threaten, not in the league but in the other trophies

I feel refreshed to start. There are still a couple of things to do regarding the team, so we are not finished product yet. It will probably take us to the last day of transfer window to complete everything we want to achieve for the season.”

Tom Carroll needs to be setting the Championship alight, if he's to fulfil his potential.

I'd rather he stayed and played in EL etc...

I think neither of you are wrong here, Carroll either needs to drop down to a lower team (preferably in the EPL) or get a consistent run of games at Spurs in the EL.

If AVB can't guarantee him the latter he needs a loan move, Watford play good football and were unlucky not to get promoted. Also, this is a close to home London club so it will not disrupt the boy.

He's in a similar position to Livermore to be fair to both of them. They need a consistent run of competitive games and at least this way their learning curve won't cost us any points.

From the midfielders we've signed it's obvious that AVB wants to win cups and qualify for the Champions League.

A good spell on loan did walker, Caulker and Townsend no harm, hopefully if TC goes out on loan, it's the makings of him

Doubt it. Read elsewhere that the are over their wages budget and need to sell before they buy again.

I would still like to see another striker sign for us,god forbid if anything happened to Soldado we're back to Ade or Defoe again.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,713 ✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

Me too. Haven't felt as strong about it recently because we were linked to so good goal scoring midfielder a but if Defoe/are are sold and Bale goes to RM we could be playing Harry Kane.

This is what AVB said in Mirror

“So our idea is to build a team that has two players, three in the goalkeeper’s case, per position. That allows us to keep the same quality without the squad dropping too many levels in terms of consistency for the whole season.

“This is why we have been very, very active. This is why the team we are trying to put together already looks very, very strong.

“If we manage to complete all the things we have in mind – our objective is to get into the Champions League and to establish ourselves in the top four.

“Regarding the league, we won’t change our ambitions and our speech. But if we can make all of the deals that we have planned for the remaining weeks, hopefully we can threaten, not in the league but in the other trophies.”

Tottenham missed out on the Champions League on the final day of last season, but Villas-Boas has clearly moved on from that disappointment.

It is an ambitious approach, and shows that finishing outside the top four does not mean you cannot attract big players.

Villas-Boas added: “I feel refreshed to start. There are still a couple of things to do regarding the team, so we are not the finished product yet.

“It will probably take us to the last day of the transfer window to complete everything we want to achieve for the season.”

Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas rejected interest from PSG and Real Madrid for continuity at White Hart Lane

He said one of the reasons for staying at Spurs was it was his “first opportunity to start a second year in the same club”.

“I think that can give me an advantage and is something I want to try,” he said.
“I have been very welcomed. I have an excellent group of players and the conditions and structures we have at Tottenham are fantastic, and the arrival of Franco Baldini takes us to another level so these are things I had to measure.
“I have great respect for the club and for Daniel (Levy) and these are the reasons the couple of clubs that came knocking I told them that I wasn’t interested.’’

The Spurs manager, who has bought extensively from abroad this summer, also criticised the cost of English players.
“There is one problem with English players in the English Premier League,’’ Villas-Boas said.
“It’s the price. This is something that has been happening on another level with Chelsea and Wayne Rooney and Man United and Rooney.
“I think players in England cost you a lot more than what you can get out of Europe particularly in the case of Nacer Chadli and Étienne Capoue so at the moment it is a market we have been looking at with players that we have been following.
“The other two [Soldado and Paulinho] are renowned internationals that we had to pay a very high price for but I think it is the right price for players of that level.
"Eventually if a good deal at the right price for an English player arises I wouldn’t have any problem with that.’’

One Englishman, though, may be on the way out of White Hart Lane.
England midfielder Scott Parker will decide whether he wants to join Queens Park Rangers after the Championship side agreed a fee with Spurs.
“It’s up to Scott now,” said QPR manager Harry Redknapp. “We can’t do any more, it’s a good offer but it’s up to him.”

Sounds like a note to Bale, "I rejected Real Madrid, so can you"

That said Gareth Bale has less time to win trophies as a player than AVB has as a manager...

Yeah but you can be 100% sure RM will not sell him to us if we're not playing ball with Bale. We can get him included in a Bale deal (assuming he's up for it himself) but there's not a hope of a direct deal being done as a solo deal.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,019 ✭✭✭davycc

maybe we can take him instead of one/some of the large Modric repayments?

Pool ITKs saying £32m accepted by club for Willian, personal terms not agreed with player though. Supposedly we submitting a bid this week, we're going to have to jump quick to get this one

Can't see Coentrao going anywhere but Chelsea, would be amazed if Willian joined Europeless Liverpool.

On another note, @tancredipalmeri: Tottenham have contacted Eto'o agent, according to Sky Italy
