Now He has to pull the finger out and sign a top notch striker and CB

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,946 ✭✭✭SuprSi

That's good to hear from Levy, very pleased with that. Modric is not going anywhere so he'd better get used to it.

Need to sign a top striker to prove our ambition to thee rest of the squad and draw the attention away from Luka.

Interesting article about the Modric saga. Basically we made 35m from the CL last year so whats the point in selling our best chance of regaining a CL spot next year for the same price (approx). It's better that we strengthen the squad and push on to achieve a CL spot again next year.

would we be happy here if we got cash plus drogba and used the cash to pay for kaka as he has fallen well down the pecking order at real?

think i would be pleased there. but is it realistic?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,946 ✭✭✭SuprSi

I can hardly see Kaka coming here. I also don't know how he'd fit into our system as he's not really a CM, so it'd be him or VDV, and we'd still be missing a Modric 'type' player. Yes to Drogba but no to Modric leaving.

We got 35m from participating in the champions league before Christmas that doesn't include the Milan and Madrid games the prize money for those two games and the TV money(as thats divided up after the end and is based on how far we got in the competition and other factors)

I have made no secret here about my feelings on Levy but I will wash thee guys feet if he sticks to his guns on this one. It's a real show of intent. roll on a top striker now.

I don't think Kaka is what we need.. too similar to VDV and he has been injury-prone at Real.. probably past his best to be honest.

As for players in exchange from Chelsea... I wouldn't say no to Drogba but I'd also consider McEachran and Sturridge.

Levy is defo playing hard ball,we need Modric to stay but I believe its only a matter of time before he submits a transfer request, players are been tapped up and we will never become a regular top 4 team unless we build on what we have.Spurs seem to be struggling to move the fringe players oni.e Keane,Hutton, jenas,Crouch(past it),Palacios,Bentley.costing a fortune to pay and contribute little or nothing

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,672 ✭✭✭keane=cock

thats true kaka would be in a similar role to VDV.

any replacements you would like "if" modric is sold?

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,946 ✭✭✭SuprSi

    Essien :D

redknapp with his usaul ****e of bigging himself up, saying maodric wasnt getting his game when he arrived and reminding everyone , once again, that we were bottom when he came....

It's fairly desperate stuff at the moment. Lots have mentioned how this could be a defining moment in how the club will progress in the future. Sell Modric, and you'd have to think it's unlikely we'll make the top 4 for a while again. Keep him and get some decent strikers in and we might.

If he goes though I can't see who we'd get to replace him. Huddlestone could slot in there but he's not as dynamic or mobile. We were crying out for a midfielder like Modric for years, and now that we have him everyone wants him!!

No mention in that article about modric not getting his game or being bottom when Harry came

  • Registered Users Posts: 5,395 ✭✭✭Hatch99

Lets be honest, this was inevitible. There was always going to be bids for Modric. Im surprised the player himself has said what he is reported to have said. And im even more surprised that Levy has said what he has. To say we will defo not sell no matter what is a strange one. Is he waiting for the player to literally beg for the transfer and then sell and blame the player ?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 140 ✭✭hotspur147

levy's statement was just grandstanding and will only make us look even more stupid when luka is sold(a la berbatov).........modric is a goner, sorry to see him go but he has given us 3 good years and it looks like we will get back triple what we paid for him.....spurs is run as a business and its purely a business decision to sell.
sell him as quick as we can along with the other deadwood at the club and we are looking at a war chest 50 million + to get in the 3/4 players we need to get us back into the top 4.

  • Registered Users Posts: 242 ✭✭tomo75

I think Luka will be sold. I think Levy is waiting for City to come in with a silly offer. They will be 2X of Chelsea's offer.

Me, I would prefer if we didn't sell Luka. Get rid of the deadwood first and sign a top class striker ( with the funds from keane, Bentley, Jenas, Hutton, etc) and add serious quality (not Parker et al - needs to be another level up) to the center back and GK positions.

There's more to this story than meets the eye. Alot more to come out regarding these "quotes" from Luka.

With some transfer gossip as well to take the heat away from Luka. Benzema and Adebayors name being knocked around. Also Pablo Osvaldo?

press play on the play button and you will hear Harry spouting his usual; 'im brilliant, the fans are sh1t' drivel

apparently its lucas agent that leaked the bid to the media. its also rumoured that luca was pissed off when he found out that robbie keane earned more than him. i totally understand this, luca should be top earner . spurs will offer him a new contract in next few weeks id say and it will be interesting to see if he signs it.

if we got 50 milion for him then i would definetly sell him. thats massive money and he is not worth that much. 40 is minimum i would take though . i cant see any team going to that much for him. city arent interested id say and chelsea wont go above 30 i would imagine

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,661 ✭✭✭mickman

rumours linking sandro with a move to real madrid. spurs have put a 35 million price tag on his head

I can understand why he wants to leave to be honest. He's good enough to be playing at the very top level of the game, and we simply aren't there at the moment. And it's not too hard to imagine that we won't be there next year either. If he see's his chance to get regular Champions League football, then he has to take it.

I still hope he doesn't leave, and i hope the comments he apparently made are being taken out of context. It's the Daily Mail after all...not exactly the most reliable source for genuine info.

Also, fair play to Levy for saying what he did. I don't think he has any plans of letting him go. Fair enough if a 50+ million offer comes in, but not for anything less. He get's a lot of stick from fans, but i quite like the guy.

Just read the last four pages. Makes for interesting reading - page 19/20 are full of despair and hatred for chelsea and then Levy makes his statement and suddenly we're ready for the fight! :D

Delighted with what DL said - you couldnt have asked for more then that.
Its all about a battle of wills now. Who will cave in first. Team hotspur or team Modric (with chelsea in the blue corner).

Remember chelsea's pursuit of Essien.. that went on for what, the guts of 2 years maybe - they got him in the end though.

Harry's in the papers (as usual) talking about 'player power' and all that nonsense, makes you wonder if modric hands in an offical transfer request what will happen next. To take the heat of DL, Harry might come out and say he doesnt want a player in his team who isnt commited to the club, thats my only worry.

Have to say, if the NOTW are correct and he's only on 51k then no wonder he's tempted to go else where. VDV's on 79K, Modric should be on at least that... and keano's on more then Modric. FFS, enough said.

On the whole transfer request/strike thing... I doubt he's the sort of player to refuse to play or anything like that but if he does go down that route I would love to see DL/HR say fine ' bog of to the reserves, oh no wait we dont have resevers. You can scratch your arse for 6 months'

Lets see how keen he is to strike in January.. half a season before the EC.
He had plenty of competition for his place in the national team too and he wont be long changing his mind after 6 months of zero football.

Not read through the whole thread so I don't know if this has been discussed - but I think Modric has clearly been tapped up by Chelsea and his comments are part of a co-ordinated campaign. Chelsea lowball a bid, Modric comes out and pressurises Spurs, it forces Levy to respond and the entrenched attitudes really make it difficult for Modric to stay.

Man Utd fan here btw, hope you don't mind an opposition fan in your club forum. FWIW I hope that Spurs somehow manage to keep Modric.

bang him into the lower leagues either where he will get the **** kicked outta him is another option!! im not for that but he did sign a 5 yr contract last season if im not mistaken

personally speaking i have no problem with a fan from another club posting once its not trying to wind people up and i think the majority here are of similar opinion. your entitled to your opinion and i suppose its welcome to have an unbiased view as well

I agree, it's all a little coincidental. As we've found out (to our detrement at times when chasing a bigger name) Levy is a tight and shrewd businessman and won't be fooled by the low bids.

No problem at all with fans of other teams joining the debates here either :)
