Good news for a change! Having a talented young player "commit" to the club at least gives us a positive story for a change.

It also insulates us from being held to ransom if bigger clubs come calling. We can stand firm for a monster fee (Modric) and not be held over a barrel like Arsenal were with Nasri.

Luca signed a contract (at least 5 years) last season.

Caulker has done pretty well so far sure city beat them 4-0 but they hammered us 5-1. Unlucky not to keep a clean sheet yesterday and seems to be a threat at set plays. Looking forward to seeing him in a spurs jersey someday soon.

AVB said they won't be making another offer in January. Could be mind games to try and get Modric to force through a deal because Chelsea do seem very dull in the middle.
Personally, I reckon we're safe until next summer though, and unless we somehow get top 4 then we may as well say goodbye.

Modric goes when Levy says he can go. Lots of people said that his 6 year contract wasnt worth the paper it was written on but danny showed em.

Dont think Modric put in a transfer request anyway he wasnt willing to lose his 10%.

^ exactly, but legally I don't think a transfer request can force the clubs hand either.

He signed a six year contract so I say make him play the next two years at least and the offer him up to offers.

It really pisses me off the players sign a new contract. You'd imagine get a bonus and higher wages for it and still think they can piss on whenever they want.

Thought I'd get the ball rolling seeing as its not too far away and people have been posting rumours in the January transfer Gossip..

    http://sportwitness.ning.com/forum/topics/spanish-press-say-tottenham-is-likeliest-destination-for-higuain

Sound logic used above as to why we'd be after this guy and why he'd want to join us. Just hope he would be joining to compliment Bale and not as part of a swap. Makes way more sense than that nonsensical article by 'The Star' about Modric + £30m for Bale.

Edit: Just realized that the January Transfer Gossip thread will be better suited if renamed to Summer transfer Gossip.. Nevermind me!

Benteke is the man I think we should sign. We can have a go at the likes of Higuain, but Benteke is realistic.

After that we need a right back, a back up midfielder, a left winger and maybe some creativity in the midfield.

And we should have a go at signing Leighton Baines. Would be expensive for a full back but his delivery is worth a lot.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,746 ✭✭✭irishmover

Leighton Baines is far too old for the price and Levy doesn't pay that much for that age normally.

Jetro willems would be my preference or Luke Shaw. Zeki Fryers I don't believe will be the player we want. Doing well with the u21's though.

If we bought Moutinho, we'd have to either move Bale back to left wing or drop Sandro or Dembele.

Is it worth paying 25m to disrupt the team like that?

I agree that we've lacked creativity at times this season but I think it's more important that we get a creative left midfielder/winger, rather than upsetting what we have in the middle at the moment.

I don't see what the problem is with moving Bale slightly wider. Dropping Livermore for Moutinho suits me fine.

Sandro/Moutinho together, Bale/Dembele/Lennon Attacking midfield, with hopefully a new striker up front. Don't see what's wrong with that... Bale has great delivery which if we had the correct striker would be converted alot more often making Bale just as effective out wide as he is now. We still haven't replaced our deep lying playmaker.

With the likes of Holtby and Sigurdsson as backup for all across the midfield.

Also Porto bought Moutinho's 3rd party deal out back in January. About a week before the window closed of memory serves me right.

This is true. Also, Moutinho has apparently got the Porto president's word that he can leave in the summer if a club offers €25m.

Yeh twitter was hopping yesterday with those rumours.

I guess, we should sit on it as supporters and not get carried away until CL football is sown up.

Also read stuff about Alvaro Negredo yesterday too and a similar agreement with his club president.

    This just never goes away
Internacional's director of football has said Brazilian striker Leandro Damiao is likely to leave in the summer to fuel speculation linking him with Tottenham.

    No thank you Damiao ...
Pain in my gooter reading about him.....
like i said before.... its the likes of Jan and Lewis, who publicly state that they want to sign for Spurs...
NOT mercenaries like him...not once has he said he wants to play for Spurs..... not even a little hint.

Maybe Sandro had a word in his ear

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,010 ✭✭✭slegs

We should go all out to buy Michu in the Summer. He is the real deal and an aggressive striker. We need his type and his age matches our buying profile. Michu and Damiao now that would make us strong upfront. I would keep Defoe as impact sub. If we can't get Michu then Benteke to add to our Belgian spine.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,746 ✭✭✭irishmover

Tottenham have had more shots on target per game than Barcelona this season.

Isn't that just ridiculous? Cries out for a top class striker who can kick the ball...

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,946 ✭✭✭SuprSi

I can see us signing a good left winger this summer as I reckon Bale (assuming he's still at the club) will be played as a striker. We still need at least one striker anyway as Defoe, Dempsey and Ade are not good enough, but I can see a lot of work going into a left-sided midfielder who can maybe play up front.

With Sandro back next season, I can't see us going for Moutinho, unless both Parker & Livermore go so I reckon most of the cash available to the club will go into attacking players, with perhaps the exception of a left back as it seems AVB doesn't rate BAE.

    Outs;
    Huddlestone
    BAE
    Gallas
    Defoe
    Ade

    In's
    Striker * 2
    Left winger
    Left back

I like the look of James Rodriguez from Porto.
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/James_Rodr%C3%ADguez_(footballer)

It might take a bid of at least £20m to get him though.

    http://bleacherreport.com/articles/1591067-would-christian-benteke-be-a-good-buy-for-tottenham

Villa payed 7 million quid to Genk for his services, i doubt Levy would pay over 10?

Out of the teams facing relegation he looks the most promising prospect facing the drop. Any other thoughts as Levy prepares to pick over the carcass of those relegated?

QPR and Reading look like certs to go at this stage.

I'd take any 2 out of Benteke, Remy or Michu

I think we need 2 full backs and a winger too
