As somebody has already mentioned, Bale is a in a class above Modric. I personally don't think one is 'better' than the other, but Bale is considered in the 'match winner' class - currently he only shares this with Ronaldo, Messi and Falcao. That's why Bale, if sold, will be sold for £60m+.

I also think that Bale comes across as a fairly level-headed kind of guy, the kind that would listen to his Dad's opinion more so than his agent's opinion.

Finally, leading on from the previous point, I also think that Bale signed a contract in March because he loves Spurs and appreciates everything the club has done for him. So, he knows signing a new contract in March increases value this Summer. I believe that Bale has a gentleman's agreement with Levy that, if he signed a new contract in March, he would be allowed to leave the club this Summer IF we don't make the Champions League. It's a win-win for both parties, we get the high value and he gets the move. Plus, we can't exactly argue that he hasn't been trying his hardest to get us to the Champions League.

I completely agree that Bale is a more valuable player than Modric because he is younger and can win matches on his own.

Modric signed a long term contract the summer before he refused to train for the club. I had seen nothing up to then to suggest he was anything but level headed.

I don't think gentleman's agreements really exist in football and if they do they don't work. It's quite easy to get any agreement written into a contract. The only reason to make a gentleman's agreement is if one or both of the parties want to be able to break it easily.

Anyway, this is getting a bit off topic. We're supposed to be gossiping!

Regarding Damiao, he is only 23 isnt he? At least we could get some length out of him whatever the price will be? I'd love Soldado, proven goalscorer in Europe but age-wise I think we should aim younger, easier to gel into our young team.

Cheeky bid for Suarez anyone?? Haha, he is a rat but a god-damned talented one

Even if it was plausible I'd still say no. He's just never gonna be fully house trained and I think you'll see other big clubs having similar opinions about him. When the first question you ask about a player is "is he worth the risk" then my gut feeling is always no. Characters I don't mind, head bangers must be given a wide berth.

Not that it would ever happen, but I'd take Suarez at the drop of a hat, top top player, even if he is a bit of a bogey.

Haha, I remember you called for Suarez long before he signed for Liverpool. He is a great player it has to be said, if only he could be tamed a bit.

Glad you remembered that :D, also mentioned AVB a long time ago too when he was doing well at Porto ;).... if only I could pick the lotto numbers..

I'd still take Damiao, as he had 8 goals in 14 games this year. Not bad at all, and we need to try something.

But don't drag it out again. Get him as soon as the window opens.

I'd be surprised if we didn't make a bid for Loic Remy as many have said before.

He's just said he wants to remain in the PL next season. Spurs were linked with him before. Fits Levy's financial bill so I expect a bid or two.

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,375 ✭✭✭Antisocialiser

Remy is an odd one. Obviously a decent enough player but are we likely to match his reported 80k a week wages?! I can't see it.

I'd like to take a punt on Damiao. Any of the proven goal scorers in Europe are going to be out of our price range. Suarez has undeniable class but if he leaves Liverpool it will be for a bid in excess of 30m i'd say. Also he's a shit.

Ah ffs, you're talking about damiao again!

Remy/Bentekke and Damino wouldn't bad two bad signings IMO.hang onto Defoe and That's a decent frontline by most people's standards.

On the Suarez thing. Not that I don't like the guy but I'd never ever touch him with a barge pole. I'm delighted we never signed him back when we were linked with him (back then I was all for it).

I don't think I could digest as many spurs fans defending Suarez as Liverpool fans are. No amount of goals would change my mind. He's an embarrassment to Liverpool first of all and football in general thereafter.

Also, we couldn't afford him now anyway.

And, when I went onto Liverpools section on Sky Sports. 13 of the 15 articles on it after the biting incident were about Suarez. Do not want that at Tottenham.

    .

You can be certain that if we had of signed him, we wouldn't be scraping around for 4th spot in the next couple of weeks, it would have been secured long ago. Top top player.... and some top players are bogeys...comes with the territory.

Personally I could never support Suarez no matter how good he is.

Yeah we'd be in the top 4 but I wouldn't enjoy watching us.

And you'd be certain we'd be dealing with everything Liverpool are dealing with. Nothing for me is worth that.

I'd take an extra few years getting to the top than having someone like him at the club. Bale dives a bit and its horrible, I don't agree with it at all. Suarez though, is a whole different kettle of fish.

It also doesn't really come with the territory.. From what I can recollect. I really cannot recall any top player over the past 10 years being as bad as this guy. Zidane had his moment at the end of his career, Beckham had a few moments but nothing really like Suarez. He's been a bad egg most of his career.

Yeah Remy is a bit of a conundrum. He will want to leave but will he find a club that will pay what he's getting at QPR? If not, will he wanna stay just for the money? Can QPR afford to pay him those wages in the Championship? Might they drop his asking price to affect a sale?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,746 ✭✭✭irishmover

I believe £8m is being touted as some sort of release clause. I wasn't sure of his wages £80k is a bit of a difficult one. I'm not quite sure he warrants it. I mean last summer he was even suggesting he'd quit football altogether..

Fcuk that, why can't we get 50 or 60m ? He's probably recognised as one of the best in the world after Messi and Ron now, if they want him badly enough, they'll pay top dollar, especially when dealing with Levy.

Third best player in the world? Not even close.

How does "He's probably recognised as one of the best in the world after Messi and Ron now"

= 3rd best in the world to you troll;)?

Cantona jumped in to the crowd to give some bloke a hiding, and the united fans still worship him, I'd be the same if I was them. Yes Suarez is a headcase, but no doubt most Liverpool fans adore him, and they are entitled to do so.

When someone says he's probably recognised as one of the best in the world after messi and ronaldo, is it not correct to read that that poster believes him to be the third best in the world? No?

Two players mentioned, next best would be third.

Either way, he wouldn't even be in the top 10, never mind "one of the best".

I'd appreciate not being called a troll.

He says "one of the best after messi & RON" not 3rd best..

The same could be said about Falcao ,Cavani ,Inesta Xavi & many other great players but at the end of the day they are such a distance between all them & messi 1st & ron 2nd that it all boils down to stats & personal opinion ..

IMHO it dint read as Bale is 3rd best in the world & it looked a little like you were going overboard there-

& sorry about the troll comment It just seemed to fit at the time lol:D

My opinion, he's not even in the top 10 but lots would disagree.

It was for research on who we should buy if we sell the 11th best player in the world ;)

It's pretty obvious this summer AVB will have a clear out of those players who don't fit the system to be replaced with those who do. I speculate:

    Sold/Released:
Gallas, BAE, Naughton, Huddlestone, Parker, Livermore, Lennon and Defoe

    Bought/Returning from loans:
Pereira, Rose, Moutinho, Townsend, Ince, ANother winger, Hulk and Damiao

    Job done.:D

I can't see him letting Lennon go at all.
