I think Jones could be as good as King in a few years! Watching him in the under 21s for England and Smalling beside him looked terrible compared to him he was so assured and carried the ball out of defence.

    FROM 'THE SUN'

HARRY REDKNAPP has urged Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy to bring in three top-quality players this summer.
Spurs boss Redknapp wants to mount a bid to bring Champions League football back to White Hart Lane.

He has been looking for potential recruits and has highlighted an experienced leader and a free-scoring striker as his two priorities.

Veteran keeper Brad Friedel has been the only arrival at White Hart Lane so far this summer.

But the club have been linked with moves for Brazil striker Leandro Damiao, West Ham's Scott Parker and Fulham frontman Moussa Dembele.

Redknapp said: "I want Daniel to go out and get three fantastic players now to come in.

"You can't say that just because we didn't make the Champions League, we're not going to improve next year.

"If you do that then we're not going to get in it again. That's a fact, because you won't pass the teams that finished above you last year.

"If we don't improve then they will improve. Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal — they will improve, and Man City... they're unbelievable.

"They are never going to stop improving as will Kenny Dalglish with Liverpool now.

"You have to keep improving if you want to keep anywhere near those teams.

"I certainly feel we need three players of real quality if we are going to compete with those teams otherwise it will be very difficult."

Although Redknapp fears his rivals will all splash the cash this summer, he insists his team can improve next season.

He said: "I don't see why it's not impossible to get into the Champions League again.

"I've said I want to win the championship with Tottenham. I want to win the Premier League."

Wouldn't be surprised to see Wickham join us this summer with all the spending United & Liverpool have already spent should mean they probably won't be going for him this summer.

Harry reckons we were in the running for Jones, pity, he's an excellent prospect.

why? he got 5th two years in a row and then had a terrible start to the next season.

didnt exactly set the world alight

Getting 5th two years in a row was a great achievenment as far as i am concerned. Remember at this time Spurs were nothing more than mid table mediocracy, people have short memories of where we were not so long ago. Martin Jol did a fantastic job for our club.

    ITK from COYS

Seems we are in for Rossi again
    Leandro is close
    In for Rio!???
    In for Samba

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,713 ✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

.. had a feeling we'd be in for Rio again this summer.

I think there's an outside chance that Sir Alex might let him go. He might not be the player of 2-3 seasons ago but I think he'd be a fine signing for us. Didnt HR mention something about buying ' a leader' too recently

Salary demands would be a massive stumbling block even at 32yrs old, so for me if we're gonna spend big then it has to be a proven striker capable of bagging 20 prem goals a season.

Agree with you here mate, Harry has done a superb job. I for one have never criticised Harry. I have followed Spurs long enough and spent my hard earned cash on trips over, and believe that these are good times :)

No way he'd come to us over United. He's a great player, but he said that he wanted Champions League football, which we unfortunately can't offer.

He is a complete cad though .. one of the most slappable faces in the premiership! Good player but I dont know if I could ever like him!

Thought I could never like Gallas as a player but displays last season have changed my mind,Nasri will probably go to UTD,the problem with signings at the moment I d say is trying to get rid of some of the dead wood to help finance new players, decent centre back and striker would be a big help for next season and yes these are the good times, have been at games in 1998 when we were avoiding relegation so looking fwd to more good times:)

What do ye all make of the talk of Gyan in a swap deal for Crouch?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,361 ✭✭✭Morgans

I think Gyan is the type of player that we need, as long as he would be able to withstand going out and having too good a time in London. Then again, I was hoping that Crouch and the reserves would be good enough to win the Europa League.

Two very different players. I like Gyan, but he's quite similar, albeit more effective than Defoe, so would that mean that Defoe would go? We'd also have absolutely no target man either, so that would have to be sorted. I can't see Bruce letting his only decent striker go though.

  • Registered Users Posts: 9,713 ✭✭✭2nd Row Donkey

    Are they that different?

I thought Gyan was more of a target man then an out and out striker?
Then again I've seen sod all of him other then the last WC.

re: Nasri - why the hell are we after more attacking midfielders? Dont get me wrong, I think he's a fine payer but we have excellent midfield options in VDV, Modric, Hudds, Sandro Bale so unless we are planning to sell?

I cant think of too many players in the current PL that would add value to our existing MF so unless Harry is planning on bringing in the likes of Ronaldi, Messi or Kaka, please concentrate on a new striker and centre back!

Totally agree. But I can't see Nasri coming anyway, but please god address the positions that most need sorting out!

Swansea after Caulker on loan , it would be great experience for him to get game time in the EPL.

That would be a great loan move for him. He would get a fair crack at regular Premier League football. He is only going to be 5th/6th choice if he stays at Spurs this season so to get a loan move in the EPL would be great for him and for us.

    Story here:http://www.football365.com/story/0,17033,8652_6979924,00.html
Swansea are hoping to strike a loan deal for Tottenham defender Steven Caulker.

The 19-year-old impressed on loan at Bristol City last term, making 30 appearances before a knee injury saw him return to White Hart Lane in mid-March.

City boss Keith Millen has held talks with Spurs about taking the centre-half back to Ashton Gate.

However, newly-promoted Swansea have now registered their interest in the England Under-21 international and have also spoken to their forthcoming Premier League rivals.

With another season-long loan the most likely option, Tottenham would prefer to see the youngster gaining experience in the top flight should Swans boss Brendan Rodgers be able to guarantee regular first-team action.

"Steven Caulker, yes, is a player Brendan is interested in bringing in," said Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins.

"We're actually speaking to Tottenham about that, and we'll hope to perhaps conclude something this week."

Caulker also went on a season-long loan to League One Yeovil during the 2009/10 campaign and has so far made one Carling Cup appearance for Spurs.

Apparently Man City are in for Luka with a £30m offer. Football365 say they are likely to treble his £55,000 a week wages.

    :(:(:(

Would take a lot more than 30m for us to even entertain them. I honestly dont think we will lose any of our top players this season! Maybe next season if we miss out on CL qualification.

Will be interesting to see how the new financial fair play rules are going to effect Man City and Chelsea this window. Surely they cant keep spending like they have done. If they do it makes the whole thing look like a joke.

  • Registered Users Posts: 6,946 ✭✭✭SuprSi

I agree, £30m is not enough. I also don't think we'll lose any key player this season.

What is the story with that fair play thing? Say Utd are going to town this summer and spend £50m on players what does that lead to?

  • Registered Users Posts: 12,778 ✭✭✭✭Kold

Jeez, Gyan is only 25? He looks into his 30s!

Basically means clubs have to get their finances in order and start spending within their means. Limits how much cash a wealthy owner can inject into a club too. If clubs dont conform then they wont be able to participate in European Football competitions
