Until fact has been established it remains speculative, I know some people like to play their guessing games and rely on that good 'ol gut feeling, and occasionally that comes good - the problem is of course that another person might have the opposite gut feeling which would turn out to be wrong...dealing in fact isn't quite so unreliable.

I disagree. Everything that has come out of Real Madrid so far is speculative.

The only thing with substance is what AVB has said, "I was given guarantees that Gareth will be a Spurs player this coming season". "Gareth is a very important part of my plans".

After that AVB refused to talk. He said all he had needed to.

Gareth Bale hasn't spoken - he doesn't need to.

Daniel Levy hasn't spoken - he doesn't need to.

I'll tell you who has spoken.... Zidane, Kaka, Casillas, Ancelotti and many many more people connected to Real Madrid.

I'll tell you the significant stuff that they have said....

You can get as big as 9/2 that he'll be a Spurs player at the start of the season. That's a serious price for something that's just 'speculation'.

IMO you get to a point where there's you get so many different media outlets all reporting along the same lines on the matter, it becomes more than speculation.

What's certain Sepp is he won't be going to your beloved Man U !;)

    Never thought he would!

Pickings were slim. He's probably the standout striker you could have realistically gotten without CL football. Probably spent a couple of million more than he's worth but that just has to be done sometimes, you needed a striker on that sort of level to progress.

i think bale is gone and us breaking our transfer record twice in 1 window is keeping face.we might get another player or 2 in but i think this spending is comin from bales transfer fee.i hope im wrong but i some how doubt it

I'd say your right. Still much better that you got your deals done early rather than after Bale is sold because you would have got held to randsom. Would expect no less from Levy.

AS are reporting that Real Madrid have verbally agreed a fee of £104.5m for the transfer of Gareth Bale.

Ridiculous money. Absolutely ridiculous. I wonder how much of that would actually be paid up front though and if any of it would be spent finding a replacement, or is Chadli it?

When they paid the £80m for Ronaldo, it was straight up.

IF it's true maybe Bale will fail the medical with an injured anus due to all the Real Madrid noses and tongues that have been stuck up it this summer!

  • Registered Users Posts: 3,913 ✭✭✭Ormus

I'm still fairly sure it'll be closer to 80m than 104.

The papers just pick a new number every day to get people talking.

Then they pick a new Real Madrid player every day as part exchange to get people talking more.: Rodriguez, then Coentrao, then Di Maria, then Modric, then Morata...probably Kaka for the weekend.

Can't even get excited about the Soldado transfer, all this Bale leaving crap has me down about Spurs and football in general to be honest.

Plus 1. I cannot remember the last time I felt so down about the transfers at the lane. I thought our days of selling our best players was over. I do not care who we bring in, what I care about is the fact that our best player and the our shining light last season is on the verge of leaving. No amount of money fixes that. So disappointed in everything that we are doing right now.

Agreed. I think the reality is that we have done all of our spending before we sell Bale so that prices don't inflate. I'll be very sad to see him leave, one more season would be great.

On that note, the missus is due tomorrow, I've told her if Bale leaves on the same day the baby arrives I'll find it hard to be happy. That didn't go down to well..:D:D

He was never going to stay though,

In reality we have been fighting the tide since his heroics against Inter Milan and we seemed to have played a blinder and are getting IMO almost double what I think he's worth assuming we're talking £100+m.

We are not a selling club we have the third best player in the world (debateably) and hes simply moving up to one of the best teams in the world (not debateably).

I reckon outside of Messi if Real offered this kind of money for anyone on the planet he'd be gone by now.

IMHO. DL has accepted the offer in his head and is spending the money now so we don't pay over the odds for the two lads who came in which must be said if that is the case it's incredibly Clever.

Possibly, although it wouldn't be fair to the others. I'd say they'll use this opportunity to put Ade in the shop window and Defoe to come on a sub

    This is not correct.

People keep saying we're spending the Bale money now, which is ridiculous.

Any half-decent business man (DL is a v.good businessman) knows you do not spend money until it is in the bank (or a contract signed at least).

DL knows that football players are high risk assets. Bale could turn an ankle, break a leg, snap an achilles and so on (touching wood again). Meaning the deal would not happen in the next month, thus Spurs would have an outlay which they can't pay for..... let's call it 'negative equity', a term we're all used to.

I highlighted earlier in this thread that we could buy Soldado, Chadli and Paulinho AND break-even, if we sold a player for £5m.

We have since sold Caulker for £9m. So we are £4m in the black.

This £4m could go towards Bale's new contract.

This is what I just picked up on a Spurs Forum .. Hope to GOD its true ..

As I said yesterday I was unsure on the Bale situation, and obviously I wanted to know what was happening so I've done a bit of networking this morning...

The reason for the silent stance from the club is because as DL has already said Gareth is NOT for sale, no matter the amount of money, and it's staying that way. There have been NO talks between us on RM, other than "go and do one!"

The rumours of RM making a bid is also completely fabricated by Marca and the RM PR guys, to try and turn his head. Gareth is happy to stay, contract negotiations are still ongoing, the latest meetings with his parents and agent weren't to discuss the sale of him, it was to discuss a new contract. He's been approached by some massive companies in the last few months and he is turning himself in a global brand. A brand that we wan't to be part of, and a brand that he want's us to be part of.

After my meeting this morning, I can categorically tell you that he will not be sold.

This is the word from a Twitter ITK....

I know people don't like ITKs, but I think this is more reliable than what Marca is spouting -

The one thing that has made me most confident that Bale is staying is the fact that his agent is not NEAR as mouthy as he was a month ago.... just before we were rumoured to be sitting down to contract talks with him.

In fairness, people can bet on anything and if the odds are 3/1 then there is a chance of making a few bob (which is why people bet after all).
