Cross from Fletcher, Rooney went to head it. Missed it and it came to Fabio's feet at the back post and a nice composed finish to beat Al Habsi at his near post.

Should have been off for it too.

The commentators said something like 37 goals aganst Wigan in 12 games, they must hate the sight of us, here's hoping they stay up so we can collect our 6 points next year:pac:

a few alright, seems to be one of those teams that when we get one the floodgates open

Rooney more often then not scores against them too

    9 in 12 or something

Great win today, delighted with the result, performances not as important this time of the season

I feel for Wigan, they did not deserve that

They were the better team in the 1st half and utd should of been down to 10 men

Happy with the win but not with the performance

Chico and vds were the outstanding players today

He should have tried to chip the keeper with his left foot in off the back post.

that was just a little too easy I thought:)

Its all about the points now. I cant really see us kicking into top gear this season the way we have before. I hope Scholes can last the Chelsea and liverpool games, I say he played longer than Fergie wanted today.

Agreed, we were sh*t for long periods. VDS MOTM says it all really. Happy to get the goal difference up a bit.

Still results are all important at the moment.

Yeah, scoreline does not tell the full story at all. Wigan could have easily put a couple past us in the first half, and having to come from behind the way we were playing, well, who knows?.

Wigan very unlucky to lose by that margin, still though, United doing what they've done all season, do just enough to get the points.

It'll be interesting to see what happens Rooney now.

Cheers, I saw McCarthy holding his ear alright, didn't know what happened to him, though.

Setanta gave Man of the Match to Van Der Sar. Says a lot about the game, really.

Crap first half, some nice second half play.

    Rooney though,uggghhh,what an idiot.

Surely he will get at least a one or two game ban.

That petulant streak that I thought he had grown out of rears its head again.

The FA have ignored similar incidents in the past so there is a decent chance Rooney could get away with it.

Vida MOTM for me, couple of mistakes but in general a rock.

Towards the end, Nani gave away a silly ball, Vida charged about 20 yards and if the Wigan attacker didn't bottle it, he probably would have died from the resulting challenge :p

Stupid of Rooney alright, however, Chico upfront with Berba is not going to be a huge difference to Berba/Rooney. Hernandez is just something special and if he features against Terry/Carragher he will make chances, and more often then not, he scores!!!

Hopefully not.. Steamy G always gets away with sly elbows, hopefully Rooney gets away with it too.. Besides the ref had a word after the incident so that should be that..

Fook, I never seen that Gerrard incident  He got away with that?

However, 2 wrongs don't make a right, precedent or not, Rooney should be banned for 2 games, as Gerrard should have been.

I agree, but it will be interesting to see which one will be punished.....it's not as if united are singled out for punishment or anything:p

The BIG difference with the above from Gerrard and Rooney is that Gerrard could argue that he had his eyes on the ball and was using his arms to get better elevation.

Rooney was nowhere near the ball and came from behind and swung the elbow which luckily didnt connect all that much. Its a pretty scummy act in fairness.

One thing I will say though is fair play to the Wigan player for not making a meal of it.He could have went to ground and stayed there. He showed a serious bit of class there IMO.

Was in work for the game but looking at the highlights now and Scholes could have cost United 2 goals early on, if Carrick or Gibson did that they would be crucified, really bad from Scholes.

Showing the incident again on Premier Soccer Saturday. Clear intent from Rooney. Thuggish behaviour, he should be banned, I don't care who he plays for. Ref bottled it the red card.

I am sick of Rooney and his attitude, he was exactly the same the other night, constantly on the brink of doing something stupid.

Course he won't. Ref saw the incident and dealt with it. Wither it's right or wrong that's how things are done in the FA. Right?

Unless the FA change the rules yet again.

He wasn't terrible flah, scored one, assisted one and involved in another. Call him many things but terrible can't be one of them.

FA should ban him for it , its a wait and see , they might turn a blind eye seeing who it is , wouldnt surprise me

Whatever about the ins and outs of banning him, anyone else think it was an absolute brain fart moment? I mean there was no need whatsoever to even challenge McCarthy let alone elbow him in the head - I really thought Rooney had gotten rid of that side of him.

For long periods he was terrible. The goal he got was the simplest tap in you'll ever see, an act of charity from Berba more than anything. He was petulant, his first touch was sh*te, he seems to have lost that bit of zip in his pace.

He improved in the second half and he looked a lot better when the game was confortable but I'm not really interested in guys who only look good in such circumstances.

He's been infuriating now since March really in terms of his attitude and his considerable drop in form.
