Build or buy?

Hi what i want is a desktop to hook up to my tv in the bedroom for streaming sky player playing poker and the like maybe play a few games but they wouldnt be overly graphic intensive. What type do I need to buy or would I be better building something better with the kids growing up fast lol. I have a little bit of experience and dont mind spending hours reading making sure everything is compatible. I never taught I would be able to build a pc but I am actually a bit excited about the prospect of it even if a little nervous. Any recommendations or help would be great. Thank you.

Oh and my budget is 600-800.

assuming you're using the TV as your monitor, so you dont need one, do you need a keyboard/mouse/OS?

Yeah i will need a wireless keyboard and mouse and I was thinking of Windows7 64 bit as an os.

would you be willing to hold off from building for a month?
Sandy Bridge (intels new i range processors) which are very very good are having their motherboards fixed and will be back on sale by then hopefully. €800 should get you a really nice build then. otherwise you can look down the older i5 760 based rig with a GTX 460 or ATI 6850 range.

could go for a sandybridge i3 and a h67 mobo which I don't has the sata issue but not 100% sure tbh because your not gonna need an i5 if your not doing heavy gaming

Buy your keyboard and mouse from PC-World, Argos or whatever local retailer you have because you want to make sure the keyboard is in Irish\UK layout.

The H67s aren't affected although I question the worth of the i3 at that price. Something like a phenom 955 is cheaper, performs a little better and is overclockable. Hmm... overclockable, I don't think I've used that word before.

On the other hand, the i3 should be lower power and could save in the long run. If it's for streaming videos, does this mean that it will be on all day?

Thanks everyone for the reply's. As I only learned a little bit of architecture for the last 6 months to be exact but still know very little lol. I wanted to build but was nervous:eek: The specs provided from IrishMetalhead look like exactly what I was thinking bar I was looking at AMD. What I want from this build is a retreat to the bedroom away from her and her soaps and be able to stream sports, films etc, so was thinking of a tv tuner and sound card if thats possible? Am i being unrealistic with my budget or is it possible to upgrade the mobo suggested if needed. Just read the post about we'll build it for you and learning also would enjoy the experience of that very much. Could write here all day so thanks again all for the help.:)

No just when shes on the main tv. Just for the odd football match movie etc.

Then your much better off with an AMD set up then if thats all your gonna do with it the i3 would be just a comple waste,
