I don't know anything about megalithic monuments, but have become very interested in it recently.

I was out walking in the Black Bog, Greencastle, County Tyrone and saw these three huge mounds from the side of the road. I was wondering if anyone knew what they were?

The area that they are found in is a particularly interesting Megalithic landscape- the many monuments within a few miles radius include Beaghmore Stone Circles and Creggandeveskey Court Tomb.

Here are the three mounds as viewed from the road:

And here is zoom view of the third hump:

I know I ideally should have got closer, but I would have had to have navigated treacherous bog! Perhaps when the weather improves I'll get up close to take pictures.

Anyway, I would really appreciate any opinions on this.

    Thanks,
    SH

Im going to hazard a guess and say spoilheaps from an unfinished housing project. They are about the right size for this and there are new houses in the background. They look about the right shape also and if they are on low bogland they probably are not passage graves. Far too close together to be mottes.

    Might be wrong though.

The size, shape and proximity points to them being modern.

And the fact that there are only one or two plant species growing on them. Dirt jumps for bikers?
