Lots of excuses : does this mean FF won't recover ?

All those from FF interviewed are trying to blame other factors for their demise - their Donegal youngster is even brainwashed, stating this very second on TV that they "were punished for being in Government when the downturn started" - or - right now, Timmy Dooley from Clare - for "having to take tough decisions" without, apparently, any acknowledgement of the fact that they CAUSED that mess.

Since an alcoholic needs to acknowledge the problem before they can be cured, will FF learn anything from this hiding or are they deluded enough to ignore the fact that the electorate have realised who's to blame and acted accordingly ?

And if that is the case - that they can't get their head around the real reasons for their demise - does that mean that they won't even try to take the appropriate steps to recover, because they'll be looking the wrong way and "fixing" the wrong things ?

Cowen pissed me off tonight big time.

Dobson pushed him to say sorry.

And Cowen did but he said he was sorry for the mistakes that lead to his party members losing thier seats.

Has he any cop on at all

FF will recover I think but it'll take a lot of time and will change the party a lot both at the top and at grassroots. Not pleasing for those who want to see FF ground into the dust but Martin is a "wartime consigliere" and the leader they needed. If O'Cuiv had gotten it for instance, yeah I think they could have faced true meltdown.

oops, I started another thread without seeing this first - I think it deals with the same issue?

On TV3, Averil Power (one who wasn't in govt, a new broom apparently) could not bring herself to agree FF had played a large role in wrecking the economy, Garret Fitz was gobsmacked and basically told her that the denial would hold them back on any type of recovery.

I'm also looking at the FF TDs returned - very uninspiring hideaway backbenchers most of them plus culprit ministers in culpable FF govts - are these the people to reinvigorate FF?
    I don't think so.

And if LAbour go into opposition, well then..

I guess what I'm wondering is whether anyone in FF will come out and shout "stop", and wake them up from their deluded bull.

Despite the fact that it's great that they are set back, and the fact that loads of people wanted to see them annihilated, that's not what I'm really getting at.

If they don't acknowledge the facts and fix THAT, then I DO want them annihilated, because they'll be a deluded cancer waiting to pounce again when the incoming government loses popularity, continuing the cycle that we've seen a few times before.

If, however, someone did give them a wake-up call as to the real reasons for the slap in the face, then maybe some good could come out of this.

But with Martin reinstating O'Dea and all the ****e spouted on TV tonight, is there a chance that they're incapable of acknowledging the truth ?
