Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Ive always wanted a valve amp but to my knowledge they are mad expensive. Or are they? Does anyone know of a reasonably price amp that is also decent quality?

I have a pretty good Adcom pre and amp combo, but thought if i could sell them and change to a small valve unit, well that would be cool.

    any ideas?

Maybe theres a good DIY kit or something...

    Some are crazy prices alright.
Take a look on ebay for Tube amplifiers. Hong Kong and Chinese made amps are quite decently priced. Theres a Ampro that uses EL34's for about 150E. Won't bother the neighbours though.
I've seen Chinese amps using the beefier 813's :)
Or there's one there using 807's for 1000's. Way overpriced IMO.

Chinese amps are hit and miss and if you get it wrong... well...

Try http://www.kronosav.com/ex-display-2nd-hand/in Dungannon. Scroll down to teh Dared amps. Sensible prices and you can trust these guys.

Or these for sale even closer to home http://www.tirnahifi.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=692

(Ritz, if the links to ads aren't ok just remove)

Don't be put off by the seemingly low power of valve amps but they do need an efficient speaker. I'm a huge fan of the genre, I even have a valve CD player!
