I finally got round to buying my friends much loved 306 rallye. Old car but it goes like sh1t off a shovel and I've had my eye on it for years. Bargin @ £650. It got some front end damage in jan 2010 and he didn't bother repairing it but has all new or 2nd hand parts for it.

My uncle was a car body repair specialist in his day so I managed to get him to have a look at it and check out the chassis etc before buying. I'll attach pictures of how it was and how it stands.

Anyway to cut to the chase the panels that are 2nd hand or damaged are only on temp with 1 or 2 bolts to stop the weather getting at it, so I need to fit them properly and the liners etc. again. My uncle will give me a hand but hes an alcoholic now so I won't be having him spraying it. One thing or another lead to him loosing/giving his tools away (probably owed money) so I don't know what tools I will need to provide for him to give me a hand.

Yes I should just ask him but most of the time he doesn't make much sense. I'm a plumber by trade so have general tools and equipment but when it comes to cars I've only jacks, ramps and sockets for wheels etc. I don't want to waste money on tools I don't need or wrong tools so if anyone can advise me what I may need or sizes I may need, I gather there will be some torx screws and sockets for nuts and bolts (have spanners but sockets prob handier?) that be great.

I want to get started asap and get the panels back on and properly so we can start working on the bodywork then sent it to paint shop for respray. Trying to keep the costs down as much as possible!

    Cheers

Pick up a socket set, preferably one with both 3/8 & 1/2 inch drive sockets. get a breaker bar with 1/2" drive too. People here recommend the halfords ones.

Draper do a rail of external torxs bits for €10. You should able to pick up a set of Allen & torxs bits fairly cheaper. A rail of impact sockets would be good too.

I spotted this on adverts the other day link. I was half tempted to buy them myself.

If your near blanch go into mc quillans for a look around. I got my impact sockets and torxs bits there for little or nothing. Radionics are doing a cresent socket / tool set for €60, which is good value and defo worth having.
