Whats the story with musicians paying tax?

hi, i play in a galway band and never thought about paying tax on money made from gigs until a few pubs started saying there gonna be giving us cheques now instead of cash in hand. is it very risky to just cash them without declaring them ? also some of the band members are on social welfare so what are the complications…

hi,

also some of the band members are on social welfare so what are the complications there if i have to set up a joint account with all of them and decide to pay the tax on the cheque gigs?
