Can't find a good book to read so I thought Id stick up genres im interested in and get you good people to suggest a book.

    1) I absolutely love war reporter type books, like John Simpson and John Snow, any good anecdotal books like those about meeting Saddam, Gaddaffi or other interesting people or scenarios but not a heavy book that focuses on just one subject for 500 pages.

    2) Social interest books like Freakanomics or Blink by Malcolm Gladwell.

    3) Not popular here but do love Dan Brown books, although not a fan of the wave of books that jumped on the bandwagon so only clever books with good twists

Cant think of anymore but do appreciate any suggestions!

As you like War Stories you may like Bob Shepherd's The Circuit. Bob is an ex SAS man that moved into the world of private security (known in the USA as Private Military Companies, PMCs).

It's an interesting read, detailing his work, including escorting reporters around war zones. Not the best book I've ever read but some interesting points on PMCs in general and plenty of anecdotes, including his brief meeting with a Brummie fighting for the Taliban in Afghanistan.

a few suggestions spring to mind

'A Short History of Nearly Everything' by Bill Bryson is an excellent and easy read (as well as being vast in scope)...highly enjoyble.

Jon Ronsons books are also excellent. 'Them' and 'The Men Who Stare at Goats' would be the obvious recommendations after reading what you like, but his other books (really just collections of his articles) are also enjoyable reads.

Maybe you might want to try Ken Follet ("The Pillars of the Earth").
    You might like that :)
    It's a good story/book either way :)

I'd recommend Sho-Gun by James Clavell. Unbelievable book. Noble house by him is also excellent.

As you like Freakonmics, SuperFreakonomics is the sequel and a pretty good read.
The Tipping Point by Malcom Gladwell is also decent.
The World is Flat by Thomas L. Friedman is a great book also.

I found Generation Kill by Evan Wright a very good read, it didn't have the "America is great and nothing we do is wrong" attitude that you usually get with anything related to Iraq/War on terror, though it is still told from an American perspective.

An oldie but a goodie is Dispatches by Michael Herr. It is about the Vietnam War.

Hello everyone...its my first post here :)

I can suggest "The Eagle Has Landed" (Jack Higgins): it is set during WWII and even if it is partially fictional, I founded it very well written with a good reconstruction of those days and very well detailed characters.
