Reports today in the media say rooney could be charged by the FA for saturdays incident when he elbowed James McCarthy.
He should get banned for the more than the 3 games as a minimum as it was disgraceful behaviour imo!

Going by the rules nothing should be done.

    Really?

The Match Thread or the United thread were not enough?

No way Rooney should get a ban at this point.

He should have got a red card in the game, but the ref saw the incident and gave a free kick. It was dealt with by the official during the game, so the FA could only ban him as an exceptional case - and if they didn't feel Javier Mascherano (vs Leeds) or Gerrard (on Welbeck and on Brown) deserved special punishment there is no way that Rooney should be singled out.

If the rules say nothing should be done, the rules are wrong.

The ref saw it and dealt with it, it should be the end of the matter. I'm not saying it's right but thats the way it is.

Er...why? If he had been sent off he would be serving a three-game ban, same as any other violent conduct offence.

From memory, this would be the first retrospective banning that had been acknowledged by a referee since Ben Thatcher on Pedro Mendes wouldn't it? Though I loathe to bring that in because there is no comparison between the two incidents.

There have been far, far worse incidents that the FA have been 'helpless' to act on because it was dealt with by the match officials. It's either okay to over-rule a referee decision retrospectively or it's not.

Still, it was ridiculously stupid from Rooney.

What are you talking about? The ref DID see it. A foul was called and a free given.
