He moved his foot where he thought the ball was going as Zhirkov moved the ball. Unlucky for Smalling he moved it into the path of the player rather than the ball.

The shoe has been on the same foot plenty in this fixture. It was a ridiculously soft penalty and Chelsea should be a man down. At least acknowledge the nonsense of it. And yeah, Rooney should be banned for the fixture.
