I took out travel insurance with this crowed before heading over. I put about two weeks of searching into it, and they seemed to be about the best value for money.

I went with the Super Backpacker plan, which cost €172, with no excess.
They do have cheaper options available though if you higher the excess, or go with their standerd plan.

They don't cover laptops under the policy though, but very few do anyway.

Thankfully I haven't needed to make a claim, so I cannot tell you what they are like to deal with in the event of an emergency, or if you are trying to make a claim.

The AA, also seem to have pretty good cover but are quite expensive.

Other places I looked at were backpackertravelinsurance.ie and blue insurance, and world nomads.

World nomads will allow you to insure individual items such as laptops, camera's or ipods, but are more expensive. They are also recommended by Lonely Planet.

Hope you enjoy your trip! :D
