I stumbled across this the other day, very bad on the operators to show preference to the uk market. Please note this is just an example as to the price plans I was looking at down here. Basically I was looking at plans with internet for a smartphone

    Sim Free 30 day contract

    Vodafone
    IE: 100 texts, 100 mins and 1GB of data (Simply 100 plus 1GB add-on) - €30
UK: 300 mins, UNLIMITED texts and 1GB data - £20

    O2
IE: 100 texts, 100 mins, no data available on this plan €20
Uk: 300 mins UNLIMITED texts and 0,5GB data - £20.43

    Three:
    IE: 350 units (1 unit = 1 min or 2 texts) Unlimited data - €30
    UK: 100 mins, 3000 texts 1GB data - £10

    Or on 12/18/24 month plans

    Vodafone
    IE: 0 texts, 0 mins and 0.5GB of data - €35 (WTF!!!!!)
UK: 300 mins, UNLIMITED texts and 0.5GB data - £15

    O2
    IE: 100 texts, 150 mins, 0.5GB data - €45
Uk: 600 mins UNLIMITED texts and 0,5GB data - £20.43 plus £50 voucher

    Three:
    IE: 350 units (1 unit = 1 min or 2 texts) Unlimited data - €40
UK (prepare to cry): 2000 mins, 5000 texts, Unlimited data - £25

We are being ripped off like mad here!

I never got why people are so shocked about this...

    Right.. So...

    1) They have more competition i.e. loads more phone networks over there trying to get each others business.

2)They have 61838154 people as of 2009 (Source: World Bank, World Development Indicators)

We have 4450446 as of 2009 (Source: World Bank, World Development Indicators)

This extra population means they will be more profitable even if much smaller profit margins.

With 3 €40 per month on a 12 month contract gives 500 units not 350. Vodafone and O2 give free calls and texts to other Vodafone/O2 customers. 3 will give free texts to all networks, free 3 to 3 calls and 200 mins to other networks for €25. OP you have over simplified these comparisons greatly

With 3 €40 per month on a 12 month contract gives 500 units not 350 and they give free 3 to 3 calls which 3UK do not.

That's on their flex plans, I was referring to their flex smartphone plans. just realised it's also an 18/24 month plan as they don't do 12 month plans for smartphones anymore
