Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Have found (don't ask where ;)) a nice bottle of red, care for a glass?

I have made up a nice cheese platter, so we are all set.

OG may have been a bit careless in his haste to go burlesquing and I may have found it in his drinks cabinet. Then again he might have meant to leave it out for us;)

As I'm still a tad tippsy I may forgive your bout of "SelfGifting" from my drinky cabinet.
However when my hangover kicks in properly I may ban ye for "SelfGifting" from my drinky cabinet.
    Only time will tell.
Time and a fistful of paracetamol.

Ah now Old Goat you go and have a nice lie down in a darkened room. We will all tip toe around to make sure your poor little head gets a chance to recover.......

Anyway we didn't touch the 'good stuff' so certain allowances have to be made for that

    BUT

If Munster win this afternoon, fair warning, there will be some celebrations going on here tonight

Is the mourning period for Munster over yet?

Just thinking about some of the "additions" people make to stuff that completely ruins it. For instance:

Marzipan. Great effort and considerable cost goes in to baking a special cake which is then draped in that obnoxious paste, looking and tasting like veterinary herbal soap.

Facial hardware. Have you ever looked at a face with attached ironmongery and thought: "Oh yes, now that's nice! How original!"

"Sampled" music. You hear a few bars of good music from the past and think "Oh, I remember that: It's....." Then some rapper, devoid of any discernable talent, interrupts with some unintelligible rant in a bad attempt at a New York black accent.

My grandson has just visited so forget above - all is well.

Tell you what, Brenzbenz, you have the cake and I'll have the marzipan...yum.

In my (ahem) humble opinion, the invention of the wheel and the later invention of the suitcase are of little merit. The real genius is the guy who put wheels on the suitcase.

The invention of cake is a milestone in human achievement but the loolah who covered it with marzipan should be used as an organ donor. I don't propose banning marzipan, or even broccoli because, like illegal drugs, it will simply go underground. Marzipan pushers and dealers would infest night clubs and supermarket car parks, leading to the demise of humanity.

My proposal is that marzipan can be sold from specially licensed premises but combining it with cake should be punishable by law. All in favour say "Aye".

Fully agree OG. A meal of marzipan followed by a sup of amoretto would be heaven.

And maybe an appetiser of Ouzo to start the juices flowing you think?

*Wonders if OG has either in his drinky cabinet. *

    Lets go and sample it
    look at it Looksee :)

Who knew marzipan was such an emotive topic!!! Abhore the stuff myself... That and coriander should be banned from this earth!
Chicken are you off to Eurovision country this week?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,108 ✭✭✭Jellybaby1

Now just hould yer horses will yiz! First of all, let's just get this straight! Marzipan is some awful concoction that Satan mixed in his cauldron. Almond paste on the other hand was blended by Angels sitting on fluffy white clouds. Got that? Now, who mentioned Coriander? Rammy, I'm surprised atchoo! Coriander is a divine herb which makes Thai Green Curry so.......well, divine! So there. Carry on!

Only 'food' I can think of that I abhor is cucumber,

Not overkeen on kippers with banana either come to think of it.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 7,108 ✭✭✭Jellybaby1

If you cut the cucumber in half lengthwise and scoop out all the watery stuff in the middle it actually tastes better. My mother in law once served me slices of cucumber which she had steeped in vinegar and sugar. I was horrified, but when I tasted it, it was quite nice. That was about 40 years ago and I haven't had it since! :P

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,303 ✭✭✭Ramette

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,552 ✭✭✭Layinghen

The smell of a roast dinner. Chicken, beef, lamb it doesn't matter all smell gorgeous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,899 ✭✭✭✭BBDBB

.........and that children, was how the Great Food War of 2014 began, the Marzipan Liberation Army set forth to smite the Peoples Popular Front of Coriander. The Kipper & Banana Alliance raided the fridge to find Vegetables of Mass Destruction but were thwarted by a lengthwise cucumber and Rube ordered Sweet n Sour pork balls with fried rice and a bag of prawn crackers
