But Castlerahan's argument was that the whistle was blown to soon for the half time of extra time. Surely Ulster had to make a finding on that

You would think so but the issue was more or less ignored.

Typical of the GAA. Is it case closed now or would Castlerahan make any progress bringing it to the DRA? That would hold up the Championship for weeks if not months

It is very difficult to prove the referee didn't play the full allocated time at the end of first half extra time. That is a major problem to prove. the ref backed up by his linesman both said correct time was played.

That is why I thought it was thrown out. IMO it can't be proven and that will be the case no matter where they bring it

Could the video not be timed from when the ball was thrown in at the start until the lights went out?

No the video does be stopped for breaks in play. If a player is down injured it gets stopped until play resumes. I cannot tell if it was stopped during this period in question but it is standard practice to cut out bits that are nobody would be interested in hence the time that the video shows is not accurate.

    From Anglo Celt online

No joy for Castlerahan with Ulster appeal

Castlerahan must decide their next move in the ongoing Cavan Senior Football Championship saga after the Ulster Council threw out their objection last night.
The club objected against the result of their SFC qualifier against Mullahoran on the grounds that the allotted 10 minutes was not played in the first half of extra time.
However, the appeal has now been turned down by both Cavan and Ulster. A source in the club told The Anglo-Celt earlier this week that they were planning to take it to the Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA) if needs be.
They now have seven days to lodge papers with the DRA, along with a deposit of €1,000.

Gaels were easy winners tonight against Lacken 5-9 to 0-6. Awful, awful game with very little football. Lots of needle and off the ball stuff. Gaels bench up to their usual stuff and encroached at every opportunity and tried to ref the game.

Draw was made for semis - Gaels got Cucu's and Kingscourt v winner of Mullahoran/Ballinagh.

The funny thing is Cavan rejected the appeal based on something completely beating of the subject of what castlerahan actually appealed and ulster based their decision on what Cavan said. Obviously did not want to go against Cavans decision. Castlerahan now going to the DRA where a fair trial will take place unlike the 2 previous hearings. County board also would not even hand over video footage to Castlerahan which shows a big cover up to me.

Lacken didn't try playing football tonite they had three sent of and should have had more. One man got a yellow for stamping on the Gaels fullback right in front of the ref. chesty was taken out of it under the stand just before half time right beside the linesman john emmo.
It was a disgrace that he never showed up until 10 minutes after the game started. The caretaker in the park Seamus Galligam had to do linesman in his everyday clothes. The Gaels trainer Donnelly got sent to the stand in the second half on Emmo call. He missed so much he was no help to the ref all nite.

Wouldn't disagree about Lacken but Gaels were no angels either. Fair play to the linesman for sending the Gaels trainer to the stand - he was warned often enough to get off the field. Some of the stuff that went on was out and out thuggery. Not excusing the nasty stuff but the ref was shockingly bad too - the worst I've seen in a long time - he got bullied by the Gaels. At one stage he threw the ball in with two Gaels players having Niall McKiernan in a sandwich and he booked McKiernan for pushing one of them away.

In fairness, there were decisions given against both sides. Belturbet got off very lightly a few moments earlier when the referee and umpires were extremely kind to them, to be subtle about it.

The decision to pull back the play when number 15 for Belturbet put the ball in the net was right as the whistle had gone and the players stopped. The Belturbet player had carried it in a few metres before he struck the ball.

Advantage should have been played but that's football. Belturbet probably would have been out in the first match had it not been for the referee that day.

The major decision was done on the county secretarys team so will be good to see what games she gets in future.

Belturbet def should of had at least two sent off and a player black carded in first minute.

Danny Brady from Mullahorn appointed as the new Minor Manager with Andy McGovern and Larry Reilly as selectors. He managed the U16 teams for the past couple of years making it to one Gerry Reilly Final and Winning the tournament this year hammering the Dubs in the decider. Anyone know anything about him?

See cuchullians v cavan Gaels fixed for Saturday next at 8 pm. Why are they playing semi finals before quater finals. The also played round one before pleminary round. Surely they should play the two semi the following weekend.

Nice Article from the Hogan Stand about Eoin Morrissey who is moving on from his role as County Hurling Development Administrator. A sometimes Boards poster who has done remarkable work at promoting hurling in Cavan.

Well done Eoin and best of luck in the new role.

Wouldn't you think that the CB would have fixed that gave for the Sat night and the semi final for the Sunday nite. I really don't believe how we can have a finalist before a quarter final is played. This fixtures committee really have no brains whatsoever.

It is unusual but it doesn't make a bit of differences which night the games are on does it?

The semi final should not be played before the quarter. It's just common sense!. It don't happen in any other competition nationally or in any county I know .
