Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

ok so I just bought the toshiba NB500 with windows 7 starter and the fact you cant change the desktop background really got under my skin they expect you to get so sick of looking at the dull preset wallpaper you go out and buy a copy of home premium lol. ok so here is a link with a download that will change your background for you http://cid-e2e0fbb97504d64e.skydrive.live.com/self.aspx/.Public/Starter%20Wallpaper%20Changer.exe just thought id share this to help others, its very easy to use just make sure you use a jpeg wallpaper for any noobs if your not sure how to get a jpeg wallpaper just go to google images search and type in wallpaper jpeg.

Thanks for the heads up about that.
The webpage/maker is not great on providing details sadly.
Personally I use other tools for doing this job (I prefer the best "Tune-Up Utilities 2011" - but folk would have to pay for that)

I would add a general note of caution too about downloading executable files that come from non-descript locations also.
Always virus/spyware check such files before running them at least!

same as that I made a system restore before downloading and scanned with anti virus and malware before using I can confirm it works perfect and is clean. at the moment Im trying to connect my xbox 360 to my new netbook and im having trouble with that too due to restrictions. if I find a way around it il post it up here as well. I never looked into windows starter before buying as the netbook was high enough spec at a decent price, rather than upgrade to home premium im just going to find ways around everything

    I find this good:

    John’s Background Switcher « John's Adventures

Not sure if it's exactly what you are looking for but great software. Keeps the young lad amused anyway with Doctor Who wallpapers!

Edit: It doesn't work on the starter edition. Apologies but I'll leave it there because it is good.

wtf?? Can you not right click the desktop and click Personalise??

If they have that blocked out, they must have changed the default policy settings.

If you're confident enough, go to Start menu, type in Run and it enter, then in the box, type in gpedit.msc click OK/hit Enter.
Then go into User configuration -> Administrative templates -> Desktop and see if anything is disabled. They should all be either enabled or "not configured" which is the default.

Thats lousy that they stop you from customising your own laptop!!! Especially if its plastered with their own logos!!

lol ya I know its because they want you to buy home premium they also prevented it from bridging connections so you cant set up any home networks from it. they have the anytime upgrade pre installed so all you have to do is buy the keygen to upgrade but ive another way around that to get home premium free, although I doubt il be able to post it up on boards lol after all we would not want bill gates being out of pocket the poor lad struggling as it is :D
