UCD Business school has a better reputation than TCD's business school.
However, I have no personal experience in TCD so obviously I cannot givr you a personal opinion on which one is better.

TCD get no exemptions for their accountancy exams so in terms of practicality and aplicability I would say UCD

If your after accountancy career IMO do b&l. I've noticed a disproportionate amount of those graduate get jobs in the big four.

From a pure bess v commerce... I'm going to say commerce based on my mates experiences. Those who done commerce found it much easier to get internships during the summers. The bess guys really struggled to even get interviews.

If they can't get internships in bess...

I'm not saying bess is worse, just that from a career perspective it seems ucd holds the edge over trinity.

Oh and not getting any exemptions is crap. Those exams are expensive for companies. So...

B&L is considered equivalent to commerce by the big 4 in terms of accountancy for the most part. They may have an upper hand with taxation positions though

Quinn is regarded as the more reputable business school. Trinity is the more reputable university, really it comes down whether you'll be staying here or going abroad. If you plan on doing a postgrad, it really comes down to where you did your postgrad instead of where you did your undergrad and the best place to go for a business related postgrad in Ireland is Smurfit.

BESS is apparently more useful if you don't know what you want to specialise in as of yet as it also covers economics + finance, while I'm not sure how much of either is covered in Commerce. Check out both campuses OP, I went to both open days and found UCD much more appealing. Some don't like UCD for how large and spread out the campus is.

From knowing someone who used to recruit for one of the big 4, BESS scored slightly higher in their criteria than Commerce due to it being a year longer.

If you know what you want to do(and it isn't Economics) => UCD Commerce

If you haven't made your mind up and fancy the idea of Economics, Business, Political Science or any combination of the two => BESS.

To be honest, I'd tend towards Commerce purely because it's a year shorter.

Can you do a postgrad in economics or accountancy after a degree in commerce

That could be the case if two students were both going into interviews without any exemptions. If the Commerce student had done accounting as their core in final year they would be seen as being ahead. With decent results in either BESS or Commerce theres something wrong if you're not getting offers from at minimum one of the big 4.

I do commerce so I can't really comment on BESS but almost every week KPMG, Deloitte and PWC are in so obviously they regard it as very reputable and there are huge interships and jobs fairs with Google etc so they must too!

As a trinity student who has just completed their first year in Bess, I would recommend commerce to those who wish to pursue a pure business degree and their area of preference is accounting. Although first year gives you a good grounding in many disciplines for me it lacked focus which I found difficult as I have no interest in Sociology or Politics and all the Business modules you do is Intro to Organisation Management. So for me the reason i was attracted to the course was the Economics part. Although in 2nd year I now have the opportunity to specialise and I have choose Business and Economics.

Does anyone know how many hours a week do both courses have ?

Commerce has 15/16 per week in 1st year, not sure about BESS, think its between 15-18.
