Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

"sport" martial arts with traditional training

Over the years I've fallen foul of both parties... as a sanshou competitor and coach I have been brandished a sportsman by the traditional "non-competitive" types and by the fighters well often they cant fit traditional Tai Chi Chuan with competitive full contact fighting...
-got me thinking, theres a lot of "sport" mrtial arts out there that also do traditional forms etc. I find them fantastic for training tactics and strategy, nt a substitute to the tougher more demanding training a fighter requires but an additional edge - benefit.
Below I've linked two wudang weapon forms I regularly practice, "out the back" in my own time. But I know that other arts such as Muay Thai for example, have weapons etc. and would love to see some of its training methods, think it would be cool if fighters here who practice like this posted up some of their stuff, might poke a finger in the eyes of the puritans of both camps :-)

the wudang sword form "kun Lun Jian" (heaven Earth Sword) -

The wudang sabre form "Xuan Xuan Dao" (Dark Mysterious Sabre) -

the sword above is said to "develop the chi" with "chi" meaning "flow", so respiratory, cardio-vascular, nervous and digestive systems to act in a "martially" efficient way. it is associated with the dragon, so coiling, revealing and concealing are trained.
The sabre is said to "strengthen the resolve" or "intent", its animal is the tiger, so long and low dynamic postures are practiced... great for wrestling in sanshou. ;-)
