Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The New Garda AgeCard System...

    Old system:
    1. Go to Garda Station with €10 and photo
    2. Fill out form
    3. Wait for card in post
I remember thinking "This is a bit of a hassle, why can't you just do it online?"

Last year I read a poster about a 'New Online AgeCard application' and I'm like "nice one".

    New system:
    1. Fill out form on AgeCard.ie, pay €10 by card or voucher*
    2. Wait for already filled out form in the post
    3. Go to Garda Station with photo
    4. Wait for card in post
*which I imagine you have to buy in a post office or something

So basically the new 'online' system isn't really online at all, you have to fill out a form online and wait for it to be posted to you, then it's the same as the old system.

It takes longer, but saves you using their biros.

As well as this, guards are often ridiculously slow in processing them.

How long does it take yas to process them on average? Couple of weeks?

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 9,722 Mod ✭✭✭✭Twee.

I paid online and got the form two days later in the post. After I brought it to the Garda station it took about two weeks. The worst part was actually having to be in Ballyfermot Garda station. *Shudder*

I'm 21 and thought it was time to get one :D Going on a J1 so don't want to be bringing my passport out with me in case I lose it.

The paying online is handy I suppose since my Garda station would only take money orders which are a bit awkward to get.

Gardaí dont process them. It's just posted straight back to the company.

Depending on the state, you will probably need a drivers license or passport regardless because thats all most places will accept.

People under 18 cant apply for age cards so why would they give a sh*t?:confused:

The whole point of getting one is to prove you're over 18

Never bothered getting one, only place I've ever had trouble with my driver's licence was in Tesco. Be handy to have it in the wallet though.

They seem to do them in batches monthly. Each month, a few of my friends would all receive them at the same time.
