Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

    Hi all,

Over the past few months, I've been getting the odd email (gmail) from various businesses, organisations etc in one specific area in America, addressed to my name. Its as if someone with the same name as me has a very similar email address or is giving people the wrong address to contact him at. I just delete the mail as they come in. (1 or 2 a month).

Is this something to do with my gmail being say xyz123 at gmail, and his address being xyz.123 and people are forgetting the dot when they contact him?

I've changed my password anyway and there isnt anything weird in my sent items.

    Does it seem ok?

spam....just ignore it. Certainly do not repond or give them any details!!

It's certainly possible that someone else may have a very similar email address. If you really are concerned that someone has stolen your password, I would recommend that you change your password as quickly as possible.

It seems to be more personalised than Spam though. For example, one was to my name informing me the car was ready to be collected from the dealer, signed by a sales person in a dealership that does exist.

Gmail tracks the ip address and location of activity on you account. Have you checked this?

Gmail seems to be quite good at picking up spam but from the sounds of things the mails seem to be legit. It cant be a full stop issue as gmail ignores full stops. If you're xyz.123 then you are also xyz123 and x.y.z.1.2.3 etc.

Maybe reply to one of the emails and ask if they have a contact number for the person and to tell them you're getting their mail?

    Prob just typos, tbh.
I remember getting emails of pictures from the rose of tralee a few years back. Turns out I had the same email address as one of the escorts, only he had a dot in between.

you can also add a +comment. If your address is xyz@gmail.com, you can add xyz+comment@gmail.com when signing up for stuff to allow sorting. So you could have a folder in gmail called online shopping and when you sign up to amazon, etc, you put in your address as xyz+shopping@gmail.com and set a rule to autosort it. You can also figure out which sites are giving away your email address to spammers.

At the bottom of your gmail screen you will see "Last account activity: x hours ago on this computer. Details"

Click 'Details' and you will get a quick summary of the IPs and their locations that have been logging into your account.
