does anyone know who won the man of the match in the county final?

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,500 ✭✭✭ReacherCreature

I'm not certain but judging on this report I would guess Callanan might be a good shout.

Listening to the commentary yesterday on TippFM, they were lauding Eamonn Buckley of Drom.
I was just wondering if he won MOTM?

    cheers anyhow

Callanan was nowhere near MOTM to be honest and was actually poor for the first 40 minutes, got some nice scores when moved into full forward but most of theses were handed to him, midfield was where Drom won the game and Johnny Ryan was my MOTM, David Butler and David Collins were also very good in the forwards.

Someone asked earlier about the Senior Football semis, they are on this Sunday, its Thomas McDonaghs v Clonmel Commercials and Moyle Rovers v Arravale Rovers - both games take place in Holycross.

Wasn't watching the game, just taking a guess.

Delighted for James Woodlock after the horrific leg break he suffered in the final two years ago

reading all them articles one would wonder do them hacks even be at these matches!

motm could have easily went to david collins or eamonn buckley, collins especially had a good game, no one could stop him under the puck outs.

the way the ref was letting play go it was easy for jok to man mark callinan and he did a very good job of it.
drom management did well by moving callinan into full forward where jok couldnt take as many risks when marking him and this allowed callinan the room to get scores in the last 15 or so mins.

Is there any play offs for relegation from senior this year?

There should be, but nobody really knows what's going to happen.

Cashel and Ballybacon played a relegation Semi a few weeks back. Ballybacon won after extra time. Apparently extra time shouldn't have been played at all so Cashel appealed it. Failed at county board but won at Munster council stage. Nobody knows what this means for relegation yet as I presume Ballybacon will appeal if they're told that they've to replay the match as they would have stopped training at this stage.

Meanwhile, Borrisokane are waiting in the relegation final for Cashel (or Ballybacon)

they should relegate the lot of them.

was at the inter county final yesterday, and the standard was very poor. as is the inter championship these days.

aherlow won, even though gortnahoe did all the hurling they couldnt score, and seemed to shy away from aherlows "hard" hurling.

if gortnahoe had won they would have been whipping boys in the mid next year for most of the mid teams!

aherlow might get away in the west with it being a weaker division but still wouldnt see them doing anything major for a good few years!

there are 12 teams in the north senior championship, the same amount as in the whole of kilkenny!
aout ten teams should be sent back down, or else have no promotion and relegate 2 teams for a few years!

The number of teams definitely needs to be reduced in the senior grade alright. I put forward this idea previously.

3 down, 1 up for a few years. You'd have 24 teams left in 4 years time.

Same championship format as this year but instead of 2 relegation playoff semis and a final, have a round robin where the top team stays up, and the other 3 are relegated. Do this until you get 24 teams.

Although it will never happen, when you get to the 24 teams, they should run the divisions separate early in the year. And run the County championship as an open draw with 4 groups of 6 (possibly seed the previous years semi finalists - put 1 in each group to keep them apart).

Top 2 go through to a 1/4 final.

Bottom in each group go through to relegation.

Each team is guaranteed 5 competitive championship matches.

If it was done like this, you could have a master set of fixtures done up where Winners of Group A play Runners up in Group C and vice versa etc...

A lot less fixture congestion as you would each round of fixtures played on the same weekend (well you should have anyway), and less games than what's there now. The games would (or at least should) be higher quality and with 24 teams there, you shouldn't be getting too many one sided games.

On an aside note, fixtures should be made by a centralised committee instead of by the divisional boards and county board. If it was streamlined it should cut out mistakes like occurred in the relegation semi and also the disgrace that is the South Board wouldn't be able to **** up any more fixtures. Another example of their incompetence could be seen today. Carrick Swans had to line out for an u16 South "A" final at the same time as the club played an u21"B" 1/4 final. One or two parents had a young lad on each team and a lot of fans would have loved to have seen both games (which thankfully they won both).

Unreal, that's some mess now all the same.

Interesting this topic on the club championship has come as i firmly believe that a Premier Intermediate division should be created in between the Senior and Intermediate division and the weakest 16 teams should be gradually thrown in that over the next few years and give the winners the Seamus O'Riain cup.
The current situation is pure farcical to say the least and club hurling is suffering over it.

Bit of continuity after Cian leaving as i suppose he is one of Cian's pupils and has some background within the county with Toomevara

novel pairing in the Tipp senior football final as kingpins Moyle Rovers take on the combo side of Thomas McDonaghs.

Moyle Rovers missing Declan Browne for the final but would have Tipp seniors like Peter Acheson, Sean Carey and Brian Mulvihill.

Thomas McDonaghs are a North Tipperary combination of 9 clubs (although only around 5 clubs are represented in this years panel). thev been around for about 5 years and this is there 1st time in the final. have 2 county seniors in the form of Philip Austin and George Hannigan.

its great to see a north tipp team making the final as there is generally very little interest in football in north tipp. wouldnt be one bit suprised if McDonaghs win it and are great value at 9/4.

  • Registered Users Posts: 4,057 ✭✭✭tippspur

    Mc Donaghs 0-9
    Moyle rovers 0-7
Fair play to he North men, great win for them.

Kildangan were defeated by Dromid-Pearses of Kerry today in the Munster junior football final. hopefully Mullinahone can gain some Tipperary retribution against Kerry when they play Milltown-Castlemaine on December 11th in the Munster ifc final.

Rockwell Rovers were well beaten by Chareville although only had one week preparation it must be said.
