    Hello all

I do love me some Irish creamery butter (it is far superior to NZ or Australian butter, and this is coming from a Kiwi!!), but I love me even more some French butter!! I ==

I have run out of my freezer stock of President doux (unsalted) and salted Brittany butter (ie the stuff with the crystals in it) (obtained in October by filling up some suitcases to check in on Ryanair) and I am having cravings for some more. I see on some threads here that sometimes you can get President at Tesco but I've never seen it??? Certainly have never seen the salted Breton stuff in Eire.

    Any help much appreciated :)

Ha! The way I wrote it, it sounds like some kind of bizarre mix of dairy and jewellery.... :pac:

I'm talking about butter from Brittany which has big sea salt crystals flecked through it! :) See this article http://www.davidlebovitz.com/2005/08/brittanys-butte/

Yea I bought unsalted president butter in tescos in drogheda a couple of weeks ago and its still sitting in the fridge. What do you use it for? Can you use it on toast or is it just for cooking? It has a much stronger smell than the butter we get here.

Corsendonk - Egads!!! Really?? And I was at Tesco this afternoon and managed to get hold of some President but didn't see Brittany butter - I think I might have to go back and investigate. Fabulous!

@mjw I use President mainly in sauces and cooking scallops my husband gets when he goes freediving :)

Tesco does do President butter, but only the larger stores.

In south Dublin, The Dun Laoghaire and Dundrum Tescos have a much bigger selection of luxury food products than Stillorgan.

Try a few posh food shops like Flemings in Dundrum / Donnybrook fair and Terriors in Doonybrook.

I normally only buy President butter, as I can control how much salt I put in them (I'm not a big salty person), plus I love how creamy french beurre are. They're largely available in Tesco.

President Butter no longer appears to be available in Tesco. And before a suggestion arrives in regarding Donnybrook Fair - they do not stock it. Anybody know where else stocks it now?

If Tesco fails you then Fallon and Byrnes is probably your best bet.

M&S do their own version too afaik.

I gave Fallon & Byrne a buzz. They don't stock it either. It seems that Dublin (and possibly the rest of the ROI) is bereft of President Butter! Seems like a good opportunity for a specialist importer. I know plenty of people who like it and would buy it if they came across it.

You should preserve it in perpetuity - its scarce stuff in these parts. Probably worth something!

Well we have had it when needed for our pastry module in college, so I guess that means it is available from somewhere.
